Chapter 21 - Fallen Ruins put to Rest

After having crossed off most of the things on the list they had and rocking socks off at shows of which even 'he' took part in sometimes, they were all relaxing back and taking a break.

Freddy and Nova got on quite well and spent a lot of time together. The others teased him about liking her more than just friends. They didn't expect Freddy to turn round and say that he and Nova had been in a relationship for three years by this point.

Chica kept her eye on Monty constantly and said that it was to make sure he behaved. In reality, it wasn't, and the others knew that. Monty used this information to play around a bit.

That left 'Him' and Roxanne, who were just walking around in the next town over.

Roxy: "You okay hun? You've been pretty silent and staring into space."

'Him': "I'm fine. Just got lost in thought."

Roxy: "Are you sure?"

'Him': "Yeah, I'm just... I'm happy."

Roxy: "That's a good thing, right?"

'Him': "Yes. It... truly is."

Roxy: "Is this another one of your philosophical moments?"

'Him': "Maybe. I don't think I will get the chance to do it again."

Roxy: "What do you mean?"

'Him': "I just have a feeling. Everything has to end, Roxanne... Including me. Doesn't matter how tightly you hold on... things can still just... slip right out of your fingers. Mostly due to mistakes that we all make... and that's okay. I just wish I had learned that sooner.

Roxy: "..."

'Him': "And for what it's worth... I'm glad I got to share this adventure and my life with you."

Roxy: "Me too."

*Bang*

Jolene: "I FUCKING GOT YOU YOU BITCH!"

?: "THERE SHE IS!"

?: "SHE'S GOT A GUN!"

?: "GET HER!"

Jolene: "Shit."

Jolene was tackled to the ground, dropping the gun.

?: "I've got you now!"

Jolene: "He ruined everything! I did nothing wrong!"

Roxy: "Did you just shoot at him!?"

Jolene: "Oh you again? Just jump off a cliff and die, will you."

Roxy: "Okay, maybe I will. After I've used your bones to sharpen my teeth."

Jolene: "Fucking dog."

Roxy: "You what!?"

*bang*

'Him': "You even think of insulting my favourite again and I will put you in the hydraulic press."

He collapsed dropping the gun as a bunch more people ran to Jolene and dragged her away, shouting and laughing at her. Roxanne just stood completely baffled by what had just happened.

'Him': "Hey, pretty lady, how you doing? you alright?"

Roxy: "I'm fine, but It's not me that you should be worried about."

'Him': "Why not?"

Roxy: "Because you've just been shot at!"

'Him': "Yes, and that resulted... in a new hole."

Roxy: "Oh my god, I have to call an ambulance! I'm sorry I didn't realize it actually hit you!"

'Him': "Don't... worry about it. It's... probably fine."

Roxy: "You are very pale, and there is a lot of blood. How is that fine?"

'Him': "I'm... normally very pale."

Roxy: "Not like this, you aren't. Yes, hello? Ambulance now. I don't know where we are. There's a building with a big star on it next to a really tal-"

'Him': "Rox. They... aren't going to make it... in time."

Roxy: "What?"

'Him': "They won't make it... here before the lights... go out."

Tears began to stream down Roxanne's face as she realised what he meant.

Roxy: "I already lost you once. I don't want to lose you again! I won't! I can't! Yes, there is a big tree next to that building!"

'Him': "Roxanne... listen to me. I may be gone temporarily, but we will be... together again... sometime real soon. Don't worry, I'll wait for you, I promise, and then... nothing will ever separate us again."

Roxy: "Your words would make me cry even if what is happening didn't. Can you hold me one last time?"

He wrapped his arms around her as tightly as his little remaining strength would allow him.

'Him': "I love you... so much... and remember... that I will always be with you."

Roxy sat alone watching the sun set. Cold wind nipping at her now greying purple fur. She shivered a little bit, beginning to reminisce one final time over the years of prior life.

'You taught me to love again, and that is why I love you.'

'I may be gone for now, but we will be together again sometime soon. Don't worry, I'll wait for you, I promise, and then nothing will ever separate us again.'

She smiled hearing his voice, even if it was only in her head. Her breathing began to slow, and her eyes began to close.

Roxy: "Wait up '‽@₩£‰', I'm coming."

Breathing in one last breath before going still, slumping over slightly as her eternal rest began...
