Lisa – Three years later

The oven and the doorbell ring out at the same time, and I quickly set down my whisk, while wiping my hands on the dishtowel tossed over my shoulder. I hear Love get up, with his feet tapping against the hardwood as he runs to the door.

"I'll get the oven." Nini says, while briskly rounding the kitchen counter to head towards the oven. "You get the door."

"You're sure?"

"Positive." She kisses my cheek, while pulling on some oven mitts to grab the turkey. "I'll finish up in here, while you wrangle them."

I grin. "Sure, give me the hard job." I tease, while giving her backside a quick pat before heading to the front door.

"Who's here?" I ask Love, getting him even more excited. I open the front door for my folks and Judd, while escorting them in.

"Where's my cute grand baby?" my mama asks right off the bat, while shaking the snow from her coat.

"She's in her baby seat in the living room." I say, while shaking my head in amusement and grabbing her coat.

My mum breezes past me, heading straight to the living room to scoop up her granddaughter who's a splitting image of Nini. She has a full head of brunette hair and blue eyes at four months old. The only thing that she got from me, is my warmer skin tone and nose.

"I'll grab those..." I tell my pop and Judd, while attempting to grab all the presents overflowing from their arms.

We all trail behind my mum into the living room where I place the presents under the tree. This year, Nini and I decided to have Christmas at our house, since baby Ella is still so tiny.

A year after meeting back up, I decided to propose to Nini again with her mama's ring, and she finally said yes. We got married six months later, having a small, and intimate ceremony in my parent's backyard. Nini wore her mama's dress, and everything was absolutely perfect.

My mum gently picks up Ella from her rocker and cradles her in her arms while the guys stand around her, ogling at their granddaughter.

Nini comes up behind me, while wrapping her arms around my middle, resting her cheek on my shoulder. "Dinner's ready." she whispers, while staring at our parents. "But I think they're going to be fussing over the baby for a while."

I let out a soft chuckle, while placing my hand over hers. "You think?" I tease.

Nini lets out a contented sigh, with her lips pressing against my neck. "We did it."

My heart melts, and I steal a glance at the mantel above the fireplace that holds numerous photos of Nini and I, and our family. I can't help but smile. It took some time, but we built our frame. Together. It wasn't an easy road, but we've made it.

"Yeah." I turn my head, while kissing her forehead. "We did it."
