FLIGHT, NO FIGHT

I looked around my room again. Frost covered the walls and my mattress. Breathing rapidly, I tried to process what was happening. My powers were wroking while I was asleep. I was out of control. I pulled my knees up to my chest and rested my head on it.

I glanced up at my clock, my only decoration. 5:51 AM. Soon I'd be checked on by Dr. Gardling and some Cadmus security guards. This was my chance, my escape. I could escape, the door was going to be opened. I then started to breath normally.

You can do it.

No more so-called treatments. No more experiments. No more electricity. No more cuts to see how fast I'd heal.

How did it come to this?

Cadmus used to be the one place I thought I'd be safe. Safe from the horrible, gruesome world that I saw portrayed on the flat television screens.

Now any other place would be better.

Safer.

All of this suffering from one mistake, one accident.

I moved about my late father's lab. Ever since my father was killed by the man-bat, I'd been looking into his work. Moving about aimlessly, I suddenly came upon a cabinet that was bolted shut. I'd never seen this cabinet before. A simple, white label was plastered across the front of the cabinent door.

"THE BLIZZARD PROJECT"

I pulled at the chains, trying to pull it open, but with no avail. I grabbed a crowbar from my drawer and pried the lock open. The cabinet doors swing open as the lock and some pieces of chain fell to the floor. Then came the worst.

Vials spilled out of the cabinet, crashing onto me. The sound of glass breaking filled my ears. I tried to move but was rooted in the same spot I stood in fear. The chemicals and unknown liquids felt so cold as they sunk through my clothes, and then my skin. The chemicals started to circle in my bloodstream, and I remembering shivering after the last vial crashed onto the tile floor.

I should have died that day.

My thoughts were suddenly interrupted with a knock at my cell door. I stood up to open it, but then the door slid open. Dr. Gardling slinked inside, like the snake he was. "Miss Canning, how do we feel today?" He asked casually, looking me straight in the eye.

"Terrible." I spat. He ignored my answer and simply answered, "Fabulous. Now-" He suddenly stopped talking and looked at my walls. I looked too. Clear, white, frost like spider webs crawled over the white walls of my cell.

"Miss Canning, why is there frost all over our walls?" Dr. Gardling asked, gesturing to the new wall decor of my cell.

Silence filled the room.

Then the doctor's eyes shone as he grinned maliciously. "Fascinating. Simply fascinating! Your powers work while you are asleep, all while you are not conscious! This is a new breakthrough, Miss Canning! We can make new scientific discoveries, all with your assistance, Miss Canning. Come now."

I stood up subconsciously. I could hear a buzzing in my ears. "No." I said through gritted teeth. "No more experiments." The buzzing was becoming louder.
