SUIT UP
"Focus."
I can't do that if you keep talking.
I growled under my breath and snapped my eyes open. Canary raised an eyebrow. "India. You need to concentrate. Try not to feel anything. Make your mind blank."
I froze the floor in front of me and stood up from my sitting position. "I can't 'concentrate'," I made air quotes with my fingers. "If you keep talking!"
Canary was naturally calm. "India. You need to focus. Emotions trigger your powers. You need to get rid of that emotions trigger, and you need to be your own trigger for them. Focus."
I scowled, but returned to my cross-legged position. I closed my eyes to block out distractions. Breathing evenly, I tried to focus my mind on nothing.
Isn't thinking of nothing thinking of something? This is my fourth try.
I creased my eyebrows. "India. Just clear your mind. Try not to feel anything." I tried to think of nothing but white space.
"Now. Concentrate on the target. Imagine it frozen." Subconsciously, I reached my hand out and concentrated on the image of the frozen target.
I heard the cracking of ice, and cracked an eye open. The target had a thin layer of ice covering it, but it was there.
I pumped my fist mentally.
Canary stood, and gave a nod my way. "Good job. Thats enough for today."
Finally.
I stood up, cold vapor flowing from my mouth when I exhaled breath. That had recently become a new thing, my breath being unnaturally cold after controlling my powers myself. Canary walked out of the room.
I was near the exit of the room when I bumped into something.
Someone.
"Sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going, and I've had a long day and I wasn't..." I looked at the image in front of me, and my eyes focused, making the image easier to see.
It's a bat.
Putting on a sheepish smile, I raised my eyes to meet Batman's narrowed ones. His eyes were narrowed as they always were, pouring out distaste into my light blue ones. "I'll just.." I slid to the side.
Batman walked past me, but then I remembered.
"Batman! I talked to Jaim-Blue Beetle last night." I called after him. The superhero stopped walking, and turned around.
Just say what you rehearsed.
"And I," I took a deep breath.
Say it like when you said it to the mirror yesterday.
"I want to join the Team."
Batman's lips turned up on the corners to form an all-knowing smirk. A smirk that said 'I knew it'. Then, the gesture disappeared as quickly and as suddenly as it appeared.
