GAMMA
Batman gave me a look, as if he was asking to speak with me. Blue Beetle got that signal too, as he let go of my hand. "It was nice meeting you, India," was all he said before running towards the exit to the room, his armor retracting from him as he ran. "I'm going to take a shower!" He yelled as he walked out.
"India. A word." Batman said. I stepped over to where Batman stood, rubbing my left arm out of habit.
"Yeah?". By this time, Lagoon Boy, Nightwing, and M'gann were all gone.
He brought up a holographic screen. An alien and a map of the Earth showed up. Batman pointed to the alien, which was small and a weird yellow color. "This is a Krolotean. They're a race of aliens that have invaded Earth in several groups, via Zeta-Tube." My face paled at the mention of the teleporters.
"The League is sending out groups to destroy these platforms, capture Kroloteans, and rescue any human hostages."
I nodded, to signal I was paying attention and was keeping up.
"This is Malcolm Duncan." As if on cue, a tall man walked up to me and shook my hand firmly. "You can call me Mal. The name 'Malcolm' is reserved for my mother, Batman, and my girlfriend when she's mad." He said, smiling widely. I laughed softly.
"Malcolm is the Team's mission monitor and coordinator. He makes sure all missions go smoothly and flawlessly."
"The latter hardly occurs." Mal added.
Batman ignored him. "You'll be with him. Watching."
"You're too inexperienced to help. With training you can hopefully help later. But that day is not today." Batman said sternly.
With that, Batman left the room, his cape swishing.
An awkward silence filled the room. I examined my nails nonchalantly.
Then Mal opened a holographic computer. "We already deployed everyone." he says to me.
I cross my arms across my chest, zoning out as Mal listens to the Team give their reports.
"India?" a voice knocked me out of my thoughts.
I shake my head and look at Mal, who has a concerned look on his face. "Are you okay?" I nod sheepishly. "I just zoned out."
Mal shakes his head slightly. "You're not going to be any help if you don't pay attention. But I understand. It gets boring if you're not on the field."
"So..I'm clueless about all this," I admit. "How do you divide the teams on missions and stuff?"
"They're divided into Alpha, Beta, or Gamma. Alpha is determined by the mission. For example, if it was a mission that took place in water, Alpha would be La'gann, M'gann, and Aqual-" Mal trailed off.
"Who's Aqual?" I asked.
"Aqualad. Kaldur'ahm."
"Oh. Is that his name?" I ask.
"Yeah. About a year ago, Aqualad discovered his father was a villain, Black Manta. He then left us to go work with his dad. Said that we kept the secret on purpose, to keep him from fulfilling his destiny. In my opinion, that's a major load."
