We had picked up Murray and were now brainstorming ideas.
"You know,hop,you could've at least have had me from the beginning of this problem,it's not like I didn't know already".
"Yeah well considering I have 2 kids who just got out of his hands I was preoccupied with dealing with them". I looked at Hopper
"2?"
"Yeah, Charley,he escaped in 81, and ended up in foster care after. Ran away from that a few months back, his number is 003".
"Jesus...how did... wait what year did he escape?" I asked.
"81,why?"
"Hop...I don't think El was the original who opened the upside down-".
"What? But you said..." Karen trailed off.
"Yes I know what I said,but in 81, Lonnie and I were still together ,and one night he said he almost ran over a dog that had its face open up with his car. Obviously I didn't believe him at the time but what if...he saw a baby demogoron -?".
"That would've been 2 years before Will went missing," Murray said, looking at us.
"And 2 years before El got out and Opened the mother gate." I said.
"So both your kids have powers?" Karen asked, still kinda processing everything. Hop sighed .
"Yes but Charley refuses to use them. He won't say why,but honestly he doesn't talk much at all, he's opening up more over time but those sick fucks really did a number on him. The most I know right is that his powers messed with his eye, it started going wonky and flipped one day,which is why he has an eye-patch".
"So what do we do now?" I asked, seconds before the radio crackled into life.
"May.....red...char...blood".
"What?" I asked.
"That's dustin,but he's not in range" Hop said and sped up, pressing his radio
"Dustin,we're not in range give us 5" he called before signaling with morse code so somehow Dustin would get the message. After 5 minutes he tried again
"Try now".
"Charley fainted,his nose and ears were bleeding,and get this! He's just like El!"
"Yeah I know he's like El, he's my son,and did he use his powers?"
"Not that we know of"
"Where are you guys? And who's with you?"
"Suzie, Erica, Chrissy, Eddie, Steve, Jonothan, Nancy, Robin and Charley, starcourt mall, bathroom,boys stall closest to the movies".
"Is everything ok with Nance?" Karen asked.
"I'm ok mom,we're all ok for the most part,the teens of us got captured by an old guy and then drugged to spill info but the kids saved our asses. We puked it up already so we're gonna be ok.....and I love you mom..." Nancy answered .
"EXCUSE ME? COME BACK HOME NOW!" Karen yelled worried for the kids. Jonothan responded.
"We can't,we found something down at the bottom of the mall,if we go home we are putting everyone in danger,just hurry up and get here and we will explain.". We Went quiet before hop looked at me.
"Joyce,Could you tell me everything from that night?"
"Yeah,of course. There were a lot of strange things happening that day" I said,
"Karen...I think you were there for it too,at least for abit".
"Possibly?" Karen asked
"tell the story from the beginning" Murray said
It was July 4th,1981. Lonnie had been out almost all night,leaving me at home...with the kids,again. Jonothan was in his room listening to music and Will was drawing. Finally at around 8 Lonnie came home.
"Where the hell have you been?!"
"At work,Jesus Joyce".
"Really cause you smell like beer,and you're whiter than normal,how much did you puke-" he covered my mouth.
"I'm Pail cause I almost hit a dog...I think"
"What do you mean,you think?"
"It had the shape of a dog but,it was greenish and it had no face,and it opened up when it came into view"
"your god damn drunk Lonnie! That's so...not even realistic!". I didn't say anything else after. Karen called earlier and had invited us to a party,so I took the boys, leaving Lonnie behind with his beers.
I knocked on the door,and Karen opened it,
"Hey karen! I brought cookies that I baked earlier!".
"Aww how sweet" she took the cookies and invited me in. Me and the boys walked in.
"The kids are downstairs, go have fun" she said and Will ran downstairs. Jonathan followed. Me and Karen sat on the couch,I noticed the absence of ted
"Where's ted? Don't tell me Holly got ill again".
"Yeah well you know she's just a baby".
" Fair enough" I began to say before the lights flickered,before turning off.
"Uh .. Karen,what was that?" .
"That's not normal, maybe just a problem with the lightbulb."
"looks like it's out in the whole house" I said as I heard the kids scream,with Nancy and Jonothan calming them down.
"We should check the electrical box,where is it?".
"It should be outside, Ted usually takes care of electricity problems!". We walked outside to find the box,when suddenly lightning flashed,and for the split second it did,I swear I saw a boy with a buzzed head before it vanished. Me and Karen shrugged it off, thinking it was just our imaginations.
"And that's what happened" I finished.
"Do you remember now, Karen?'.
"Oh yeah I kinda see what you're talking about!"
"Maybe Lonnie did see the Demogorgon then,but what about the boy?" Murray asked.
"Simple, that was Charley,the day he escaped. And look, speaking of him here we are. The mall"
We all ran inside to the kids. Karen hugged Nancy while hop tended to Charley. I hugged Jonathan, kissing him everywhere. Seconds later Charley sat up in a gasp.
