"Miss Rembrandt, I have someone from Emory on the line for you. Miss Rembrandt? Um, Emma?"

I blink. You know those mornings where you're not really conscious of what's going on around you? Those times where you're not tired just... thinking too much? It may be one of those mornings.

Deb is looking at me with fear in her eyes. I fight the urge to roll my eyes once I realize she's trying to get my attention. She can be a little too much sometimes.

"What?" I mumble. She frowns.

"Someone from the research department at Emory is on the line and asking for you."

"Um, ok transfer them." I say lazily before taking a big sip of coffee.

After a quick, boring work call, I merely sit behind my obscenely large desk. This job had given me a high the first week, but now I feel dreary. I'm worn out, especially with everything with Zach. Is this adult life? Will everything always be a ton of work?

Geez, now I sound like a whiny brat.

Will walks in. I can tell he wanted to talk about Zach but I managed to keep the conversation about work. He's been wanting to talk about me and Zach for days, but I'm technically his boss during work and specifically told him we needed to stay professional during work. I may have snapped, but I'm like a twig these days.

He hands me the rest of the files on the finances of a specific project.

"Deb finalized everything for your trip to New York?" He asks me. I nod. I have to meet some investors in New York, a business trip. Will wanted to go, but I assured him I could go alone, that someone had to stay behind and make sure everything runs smoothly in LA. This is not an important meeting anyway.

"And remember I'm going to stay an extra day or two just to visit my mom. I'll call or email the results of the meeting, it's a minor meeting though."

"Of course." he says.

He waits a minute before asking, "Is Zach going to join you?" I look up from my computer.

"No, it's a business meeting, and he doesn't work here." I shrug, going back to my computer. I'm not even doing anything, just checking my email. I figure I'll just make up the work on the flight. Hey, don't judge, everyone does it.

"Well, of course, but you're also visiting your mom, wouldn't he-"

"No, he has work and can't get off. I have to get ready for my flight. I leave at seven." He eyes me curiously but drops the subject. I take this as my chance to leave and speak with Deb.

"Deb." I say. She perks up Immediately.

"Y-yes."

"Please take all my calls and just take messages. I don't care who it is, please do not bother me while I'm gone."
