'the stars above and everything in between'

meanwhile on pandora :
The Sully family gathered around in their small but cozy marui shortly after Jake ushered them in. He said he had something important to tell them and judging by his stiff demeanour, it wasn't going to come out easy.
"I got a call, from Norm." he strained out.
the family knew the latter as his former human friend, Neytiri wasn't particularly fond of the man but respected him for all he'd done for them, even with the little help or equipment they could scrounge. Jake in particular, had and could talk his kid's ears off about how he practically grew attached to him and the fact that he simply owed it to him and grace for everything and anything he had now, this life, his senses, his kids, and Neytiri.
but something about how the air weighed in on his shoulders, didn't quite sit right with all of them. surely this wasn't about the sky people, right? it's not that they couldn't prepare themselves for the worst, they didn't want to. They'd been through enough.
that's what they called them anyway, or demons, as Neytiri would put it, plain and cut.
But what next came out of Jake's mouth, proved to be their darkest fear.
Tuk nuzzled into her mother's arm as the anticipation grew deeper.
"Just spit it out dad." Loak shot in, growing impatient.
he earned a pointed look from his brother to which he lowered his head low.
"It's about his brother," Jake said finally cutting the silence.
"Norm- had a brother?"
"has, has a brother-," Jake corrected Neytiri "-breathing and alive and down on earth."
Neytiri's eyes shot wide.
"OK, but what does that have to do with us?"
"You're so dumb bro," Neteyam said nudging his brother hard on his side.
"When has it ever not got anything to do with us?" Kiri pitched in this time, her voice barely audible from across the marui. She'd never circle in, even on times like this, she'd prefer to watch from the sidelines.
"What did they do?" Neytiri spoke with caution.
"They haven't done anything yet but they're waiting to strike first, it's only a couple of weeks before they find out about the base."
"Ma ewya.." Neytiri put her hand over her mouth as her head spun with the thought of them getting to her.
"And it's only a couple of days before they find out about her."
Jake almost didn't want to believe himself but judging by the pace of their network, they've covered a lot of ground, if not the entire neighborhood, and he'd be a complete fool to not want to admit it aloud in front of his family.
"Dad? What's going on?" Kiri asks, finally sitting up from her position around the corner and making her way to Tuk.
concern grazed her eyes as they met with her father's. This was different from when they left home. and she knew that.
It had to have been.
"We've got a guest."
"they know don't they?" Neytiri spoke, through gritted teeth. She knew the sky people would use any and every given chance to tear apart at anyone's last bit of hope.
"Unfortunately." Jake sighed sinking his head in his hands. He was growing old, though na'vi don't visibly start aging soon enough, the sky people just wouldn't stop at the cost of anything. They wanted everything.
"They don't however, know about her powers." he tried to make himself sound as hopeful as he could. He knew the sky people were onto them, but she hadn't ever harnessed her powers fully.
"That's good. but ma jake-" Neytiri closed in on the distance between them. "It is only so long before they find out, and use her for the worst."
Neytiri couldn't let what happened all those years back happen again. nobody could if they knew the catastrophe that was to follow.
jake pulled her head against his, "James and Brooke won't let that happen- they can protect her- they've been by her side all along." he said finally meeting her gaze. something flashed through Neytiri's eyes, warmth? fear? he couldn't quite tell himself despite having known this woman for years now.
"James and Brooke? Jake- Jake have they been taking care of her- has she been healthy? did they hurt he-"
"She's been strong, my heart, she's going strong. She has a family now." Jake felt the warmth in her eyes, only now did he realize the weight lifting off his own shoulders at the reassurance of her safety. They couldn't afford to let anything happen to her. not in this lifetime.
he rubbed her arm holding her close to him. "She's going to be fine, she has the capacity to feel."
he remembered, a distant memory of someone really close to him, saying the exact same words. he smiles softly at his wife and the resemblance of the child to her mother.
they share a moment before Tuk jumps out of Kiri's arms, "Care to tell us now?"
the couple smiled before they turned to their curious faces.
'Oh, how they'd grown.'
Jake began to pour in on the information, slowly and steadily. It all felt a little overwhelming how they were weeks away from seeing her, for the first time.
He spared a look to his oldest son, who'd been eerily quiet this whole time, "you okay son?"
Neteyam simply nodded, still seemingly lost in his thoughts, but listening intently to what his father said. He grew curious about this girl and what she meant to them.
He wasn't going to tell him what he saw in his vision at the cove of the ancestors. he wasn't going to tell them that he saw someone. he wasn't going to tell them that he saw a girl using her powers. he wasn't.
At least not yet. He had to be sure before he could trust anyone with this, especially his own family.
He'd hate to admit it but a feeling of excitement pooled inside him, even if he hadn't let it show.
