Chapter 45

Rami smiled when he heard giggling coming from upstairs. Soon footsteps thundered down the stairs. Rami turned around to greet the two girls.
"Good morning, did you sleep well?" Rami asked.
"I did," Scarlett said. Addison nodded.
"Breakfast is almost ready. Why don't you sit down at the dining table?"

While Scarlett was using the bathroom, Rami sat down next to Addison.
"How did you sleep?" He asked.
"Good."
"I knew you could do it. I'm proud of you." Rami held up his hand and soon received a high-five from Addison.
"Was it as scary as you thought last night?" Addison shook her head.
"Would you like to sleep over another time? Somewhere in a few weeks?" Rami asked. Addison nodded.
"Alright," He said before giving Addison another high-five. 

Joe and Gwil put on their running shoes. They had set out a very short route. The plan was to walk the first part and if it went well run the last part home. Currently, they just started to run. Joe was keeping a close eye on Gwil. He saw that his knees buckled and before he could do anything about it, Gwil was laying on the floor.
"Are you okay?" Joe asked while immediately turning around to walk over to Gwil. The latter nodded.
"Do you want to walk back?" Joe asked while crouching down next to Gwil. The brunet shook his head.
"I can't. I really can't," He said. A few tears fell from his eyes. Joe shifted so he was sitting on his knees.
"Why the tears, love?" Joe asked while he took Gwil's hand in his own.
"I can't do this. It's too frustrating. I am making no progress. I'll never be the same," Gwil said while more tears rolled down his cheeks. Joe moved forward to push Gwil against his chest.

"I can only try to guess how frustrating this is for you. But with my journey, I was also afraid that I'd get stuck but eventually I did improve. It just takes a little more time than you're used to." Joe grabbed Gwil's hand in his own.
"Do you want to try and walk a few steps?" Gwil shook his head.
"I can't. This isn't because I don't want to, but I literally can't." Joe took his phone out of his pocket and immediately started calling Ben. 
"Hey, Ben. Can you come and pick us up?" Joe asked. After telling Ben where they are, Joe put away his phone. Joe eyed Gwil, unsure how to help.

As they were still really close to their home, Ben arrived just a few minutes after the call.
"What happened?" Ben asked while he jumped out of the car.
"Legs gave out on me," Gwil said without looking up.
"Is there any way you can stand?" Ben asked. Gwil immediately shook his head.
"Okay, that is fine." Ben picked Gwil up bridal style. He couldn't help but compare how much lighter Gwil was compared to before the accident. Joe rushed to open the door of the passenger seat for them. As carefully as humanly possible, Ben sat Gwil on the seat before buckling him in. So far Gwil didn't seem to realize that he was about to have a car ride and Ben wasn't going to point it out to him.

Ben was surprised that Gwil didn't respond when Ben turned on the car. Ben paid even more attention on the road than he normally would. Once they arrived home, Ben carried Gwil inside.
"Where do you want to go?" Ben asked.
"Bed." So, Ben carried Gwil to their bedroom. He carefully lowered Gwil onto their bed.
"Call or text if you need anything."

When Ben walked out of the bedroom a minute later, Joe snatched his arm.
"Are you going to leave him alone?" Ben raised an eyebrow at him.
"He asked me to leave him for a second so he could collect his thoughts," Ben explained.
"He told me that he couldn't do this anymore. I am afraid he will do something crazy." 
"Joe, stop the scenario thinking. Just give him a couple of minutes to collect his thoughts. Meanwhile, you can tell me what happened."
"We were running and suddenly he stopped. He stood still for a solid second before his knees just kind of buckled. Next thing, he is sitting on the ground then he started breaking out about having made no progress and that he will never be able to walk normally." Suddenly a loud crashing sound came from their bedroom. Joe and Ben locked eyes before rushing to the bedroom.
