Chapter 32

The next morning Ben and Joe arrived at the hospital early. Neither of them had been able to get a lot of sleep. They quickly ate breakfast before making their way over to the hospital. When they walked into the hospital room, Addison was not in the room. Ben immediately made his way over to Gwil. The latter had his eyes closed, but by the way, he was breathing, Ben could see that he was awake.
"Love?" Ben whispered. Gwil groaned.
"Ben?" He mumbled.
"Yeah I am here, how are you feeling, love?" Ben said. He grabbed Gwil's good hand in his own.
"Terrible," Gwil mumbled. 
"What is bothering you the most?" Ben asked.
"Everything hurts."

Joe walked into the hallway to see if he could find a nurse that could help Gwil out. The first nurse he found promised to be with them as soon as possible. When he walked back into the room, he hurried over to Gwil's bed. Joe's lip quivered while he looked down at Gwil. Seeing his husband like this, so broken, had him in tears. 
"Joey?" Gwil said while he looked up at Joe. 
"Yes?" Joe asked.
"Please don't cry," Gwil said. He let go of Ben's hand and reached out for Joe's hand. Joe stepped forward so he could intertwine his fingers with Gwil. With his free hand, he wiped the tears from his face. Although they are immediately replaced with new ones.
"I'm sorry," Joe mumbled.
"Kiss?" Gwil asked. But before Joe could lean in, a nurse walked in. 

"Mr. Mazzello? How are you feeling?" The nurse asked. 
"Miserable. I'm in a lot of pain," Gwil said. The nurse kept Gwil's file from the foot of the bed. She checked some data before nodding slowly.
"I am going to give you more pain medicine. I'll be right back." 
"Thank you," Gwil said. 

Before either of them could say anything else, the door opened once more. A nurse walked in with Addison in her wheelchair. 
"Good morning, sweetheart," Ben said while walking over to Addison.
"We just checked Addison out and she is doing really good. Within half an hour a doctor will come in to make a final check. If he confirms the results, she is free to go home," The nurse said.
"That is fantastic. Is there anything we should do when she is home?" 
"The doctor will tell you more about that."

Ben lifted Addison out of her wheelchair. He walked over to one of the chairs next to Gwil's bed before sitting down with Addison on his lap. 
"Did you sleep well?" Ben asked. Addison nodded while burying herself into Ben's embrace. 
"How are you feeling?" 
"My head hurts," Addison said. Ben rubbed his hand over her back.
"I am sorry to hear that, sweetheart. The next few days you have to rest a lot and then it will get better, okay?" Addison nodded.

Meanwhile, Joe was still holding Gwil's hand.
"Kiss?" Gwil asked again. Joe smiled before he bend forward. Slowly he connected their lips together. 
"I love you," Gwil said. Joe smiled.
"I love you too. I am so sorry this has happened to you, Gwil." Joe's lip started to tremble once more.
"Please don't cry," Gwil whispered. Joe turned away from Gwil to take a few deep breaths. From the corner of his eyes, Ben waved him over. When Joe turned back to Gwil, the latter nodded in encouragement. Joe made his way over to Ben and Addison.

"Hi, sweetheart. Good morning," Joe said while he sat down on the empty chair next to Ben. The latter immediately lifted Addison onto his lap. Addison tucked her face into Joe's neck. Joe closed his eyes while he pulled Addison closer, relishing the feeling of holding her in his arms. Ben made his way over to Gwil. As carefully as he could muster, Ben placed the side of his hand on Gwil's face. He bit his lip to prevent it from quivering. 
"I am so tired," Gwil mumbled. 
"You can go to sleep, sweetheart. It's okay." Gwil nodded while he let his eyes close. Ben grabbed Gwil's hand in his own. 

When the doctor walked in, Gwil was sound asleep.
"Good morning," The doctor said. He walked forward to shake both Ben's and Joe's hands. 
"Good to see you again, Addison. Are you feeling okay today?" The doctor asked. Addison nodded.
"She was complaining about her head hurting just a minute ago," Ben said. The doctor nodded.
"I wouldn't expect differently." 
"Alright, Addison. I am going to do some checks on your arm and your ankle. Then I am going to take one more look at you to make sure we didn't miss anything. Alright?" The doctor asked. Addison nodded.
"Besides your head, your arm, and your ankle. Is there anything that feels a little weird?" Addison shook her head.
"Are you sure, Addy? Now is the time to tell him," Ben said while he brushed some hairs out of her face. Addison nodded again.

"Alright. Can you move your thumb up and down for me?" The doctor asked while tapping on the hand of Addison's broken arm. Addison did as told.
"Can you move it in circles?" The doctor asked Addison to do the same thing for all her other fingers. He lifted her arm to check the upper part of her arm. 
"That looks really good to me. Could you roll up the sweatpants on her left side?" The doctor asked Ben. The latter bend down to do just that. The nurse had unwrapped her ankle for the doctor to take a look. He moved Addison's ankle around a little. 
"This also looks fine to me. I'll send a nurse in here after I am done to show you how it is wrapped. They are better at that than I am," The doctor said. He asked Addison a few questions before getting out a little light to shine in her eyes. 

"After the nurse has wrapped her legs. Addison is free to go home. I'll ask the nurse to walk with you to the front desk and print out a few information sheets for you. They will also make sure you can pick up all the medicine and the gaze for her leg. In two weeks we'll ask you to come back so we can check out her leg. From what I can see right now it looks like it is going to heal fast. If we are lucky we can have her start walking small distances after those two weeks. It is just a little unfortunate that she also has a broken arm. That makes it impossible for her to walk with crutches. So, she will have to be in a wheelchair for those two weeks." The doctor explained some more things they had to look out for in the upcoming few days.

Joe walked downstairs with Addison and the nurse to get Addison's ankle wrapped again and to get all the paperwork and the medicine. When Ben turned towards Gwil, the latter had his eyes open.
"Did you listen to what the doctor said?" Ben asked. Gwil nodded.
"She is going to be back on her feet in no time. You can stop worrying about her, okay?" Ben asked. Gwil nodded.
"Go back to sleep, love. You need your rest," Ben said. Gwil nodded.
"I love you," Ben said. Gwil pushed his lip corners up.
"Love you too."
