Chapter 31

Joe called Rami when they were asked to leave. As they were brought to the hospital by the police officer, they had no way to get back home.
"Hey, Rami? Can you come and pick me and Ben up from the hospital?" Joe asked as soon as Rami picked up the phone.
"The hospital? What happened?" Rami asked.
"We will explain when you get here. I'll text you the department and room number we're at," Joe said. 
"Alright. I'll leave in a second." Joe texted the room number before turning his attention to Gwil.
"We'll be back tomorrow. Except for clean clothes, is there anything you want us to bring from home?" Gwil shrugged before his face scrunched up in pain.

Ben was waiting in the corridor for Rami to arrive. As soon as Rami turned the corner and saw Ben, he ran over to him.
"What happened?" Rami asked.
"Gwil and Addison got into a car crash. You can go inside if you want, but just a heads up that Gwil looks quite ravished. He is okay though. Addison got away with a few minor injuries," Ben said. 
"Oh god," Rami mumbled. He quietly followed Ben into the room.

Rami suppressed a gasp once he saw Gwil laying on the bed.
"Hey," Rami said while making his way over.
"Hi," Gwil mumbled. 
"What happened?" Rami asked while looking mainly at Gwil.
"I'll tell you when we are in the car. Addison doesn't know what happened and as long as she doesn't ask any questions we aren't going to tell her," Joe whispered the last part. Rami nodded.
"How are you feeling?" Rami asked.
"Absolutely awful. But I am glad that I am here to tell you that," Gwil said. 
"Is there anything I can do for you?" 
"Not really. Make sure they get home safe," Gwil said while looking at Ben and Joe.
"I'll make sure of that. You hang in there, okay?" 
"I don't have much of a choice."

Rami turned to walk over to Addison who was not laying down on her own bed.
"Hey Addy," Rami said while sitting down on the edge of the bed. 
"Hi Rami," Addison said with a smile on her face.
"Look at your beautiful pink cast," Rami said. 
"You should have picked the color of your dad's casts too. Now he has boring black casts," Rami said. Addison giggled. 
"I am going to take Benny and Joey home. They will be back tomorrow, okay?" Addison nodded.
"Goodnight, sweetie," Rami said while placing a kiss on Addison's forehead. He walked back over to Gwil. 
"I hope you can get a good night's rest tonight. Sleep well, Gwil," Rami said.
"Thanks," Gwil mumbeled. Ben and Joe took their time to say goodnight to both Gwil and Addison.

As soon as the three of them had left, a nurse walked in.
"Good evening, my name is Marie. I am one of the nurses that will be here during the night. I am going to check on her first before helping you," She said to Gwil while she walked over to Addison.
"Hi, what is your name?" She asked. Addison shied away from her.
"It's okay, Addison. She is here to help you," Gwil said noticing her behavior immediately.
"Addison? That is such a pretty name!" The nurse exclaimed happily.

"Hey, Addison. Did someone tell you what happened to your brains?" Addison shook her head. The nurse pulled a little module out of her pocket. Calmly she explained to Addison what a concussion is.
"Tonight we are going to wake you up every two hours and we are going to ask you three questions. They are really easy. We are going to ask you what your name is. What the names of your dads are and how old you are. Alright?" She asked. Addison nodded. The nurse held up her hand to receive a high-five from Addison.

"Then it's time to bed. I heard that you sleep with a stuffed animal at home, don't you?" The nurse asked. Addison nodded once more.
"Tomorrow you'll be able to sleep with her again. For tonight, I brought you another fluffy friend." The nurse took a stuffed rabbit out of her bag. She handed it to Addison.
"If there is anything tonight or if you are in pain, you can push that red button and someone will come in to help you."

The nurse turned to Gwil.
"Can I give her a hug?" Gwil asked. The nurse nodded.
"I am going to lift you onto your dad's bed so you can say goodnight," She said before lifting Addison up. Gwil wrapped his good arm around her.
"Sweet dreams, sweetheart. I love you," Gwil says.
"I love you too. Superhero." She added. Gwil smiled at her, his lip slightly trembling.

The nurse brought Addison back to her bed. She drew the curtains around Gwil's bed.
"On a scale from 1 to 10, how much pain are you?" The nurse talked quietly.
"About a 7," Gwil mumbled.
"Do you have any history of substance abuse?" Gwil shook his head.
"I can give you another dose of painkillers in about twenty minutes," Gwil nodded.

"I'm afraid that you'll not be able to go to the bathroom alone in the upcoming time. Please press the red button above the bed when you need to go and someone will come in to help you. You can also hit it if you need anything else or if the pain worsens," She explained.
"Is there anything I can do or get for you now?"
"Can I get some water?"
"Of course, I'll bring you some."

Meanwhile, Rami is sitting in the living room with Ben and Joe. The latter had just explained everything they knew happened. 
"So, Addison doesn't remember anything?" Rami asked. Ben shook his head.
"She was knocked out when it happened. Somehow she hasn't asked any questions." 
"And Gwil?" Rami asked.
"He isn't doing well. He remembers quite a lot, but he also blames himself for the fact that both of them got hurt," Ben explained. 
"That's tough. Hopefully, he can get the help he needs."

"If there is anything I can help you out with within the upcoming days. Just give me a call," Rami said while getting up from the couch.
"We don't know anything yet. Hopefully, Addison can come home tomorrow, but we might need to have a babysitter when we need to be at the hospital with Gwil," Joe said. Rami smiled.
"Just bring her over. She can always stay the night if she needs to," Rami said. 
"Thanks," Joe said.
