Book One
Gondel paced in a circle thinking and thinking. He has already gone through his thoughts a thousand times before visiting his old friend. Why was he over-thinking? Finally he stopped, put himself together and walked towards the front door of the lake house with confidence.
Gondel knocked on the wooden door twice and waited patiently for someone to open it. To his pleasure, someone did. "Yes?" An old man spoke softly to Gondel. "Hello Arnold. Is she here?" Gondel asked calm and quiet.
Arnold opened the door wider as it creaked; he then gestured towards a door for Gondel to open. The door was very close to the small kitchen so Gondel had to becareful not to knock anything over to startle the girl in the room.
He softly knocked on the door and heard Arnold close the front door and walk to the living room to watch TV. The door clicks open and a blue eye appears; eyeing Gondel. Gondel smiles, "Hello lil' cutie."
The door opens wider. A girl with Black hair that waved down to her elbows stood in front of Gondel. "I'm not Little anymore." She said putting the emphasis on "little". Gondel smirked, "Well it's nice seeing you again Variana."
Variana half smiled and stepped out of her bedroom. "I haven't seen you in a while Gondel... What are you doing here?" Variana questioned as she started preparing her breakfast. "You know why I'm here." He said. Variana got annoyed by what he said and groaned.
Gondel chuckled and opened a mini fridge in the kitchen searching for milk. Variana started to eat sunny side up eggs and bacon. "After you're done with that, should we go out to that lake we went to as kids?" Gondel asked.
Variana nodded with her mouthful and started to chug down the carton of milk Gondel had in his hands. She ran to her bedroom to get ready since she was still in her PJ's. Gondel took the dirty plate off the dining table and started to wash it in the kitchen sink. He threw the carton of milk in the trash can and sat down next to Arnold who was watching a golf game. "How are you doing old buddy?" Gondel asked Arnold.
Arnold laughed and turned away from the TV, "Getting older and older by the minute... Probably not going to last any longer this year." Gondel sighed. Arnold continued, "You know Variana is going to be lonely. She needs you."
"And that's why I've come back. We need her. Somethings gone wrong back home. We need her help." Gondel said in a whisper.
Arnold opened his mouth to say something but Variana walked into the room. She was dressed in a Blue jacket, skinny jeans and black converse. Her head was facing down, putting her hair in a braid. Gondel stared at her in awe. Variana looked up and shrugged at Gondel, "We going or not?" He broke out of the trance and stood up from the couch.
They both said their good byes to Arnold and left to the lake.
