Chapter Eight
The gaurds were dressed in brown and white, scary faces stared Gondel, Variana and Dean down.
They didn't know what to do, but Variana did.
She waves a hand from above her head and back down, this made pieces of the ceiling fall down and crash on some gaurds.
The injured ones layed on the floor and cleared out a path.
"Follow me!" Variana shouted to the two idiots with there mouth open.
Variana reached a hallway where at the very end of it was a door that she knew would be an exit to the garden outside.
She runs faster, making candles levitate off of tables and fly down to the other side of the hallway, hitting the drapes covering windows and burning them.
The gaurds yelled and atmediatly started making water-filled spheres to extinguish the fire.
Variana opened the door at the end of the hallway and ran across the garden, Gondel and Dean still running behind her.
"Variana! Hold up!" Dean yelled.
She stops and faces the panting boys slowly reaching to her.
"Where... Are, you going?" Gondel pants.
Dean was bent over, taking deep breaths. They were really out of shape.
Variana rolls her eyes at the stupid question, "To the forest!"
"The forest is at the other side of the school. You went the wrong way." Dean said when he finally caught his breath.
"I went the wrong way?! Why didn't you tell me sooner?!" She started yelling in frustration.
"I was going to but you started to throw things and ran faster." Gondel said to Variana, reasoning with her.
"Well what do we do now?" Dean asked.
There was silence between them and very hard thinking from Gondel.
"I know," Gondel started to say, "The school boundary exit is nearby, if we go there, we can get past the gaurds and stay in town for a few hours while we think of a way to get to the forest."
It was a good plan, but dangerous.
"Let's do it." Variana piped.
Dean nodded his head violently.
Gondel lead them quietly, behind statues, sneaking past other gaurds in the garden and acting casual around other students who didn't know of what was going on.
They reached a barn and hid in the Horse's stables. It was a couple of yards away from the boundary exit.
"Okay, we have to get there by blending in and walking slow through the crowd of cows over there." Gondel stated, peeking through a small hole of the stables wall.
Dean hummed in agreement and Variana mumbled, "Great. Let's do this."
Dean slowly opened the stables back doors and crawled to the white picket fence. He climbed through them and knelt beside a cow eating grass. Variana followed behind him and scrunched her nose up at the smell of the cow.
Gondel was following last so that if anyone were to be following them, he would have the advantage of attacking them first.
Dean continued crawling, beside the cows and even under one which made Variana groan in disgust.
Gondel smirked and kept glancing behind him.
They made it to the end of the fence and were a few feet away from the boundarys exit. 4 gaurds kept watch of the huge golden door that was held by the invisible dome around the school.
Variana tightened her backpack and started crawling under the fence when sudennly a hand grabbed her ankle, dragging her back.
"What are you doing?" Gondel hissed.
"I'm running for the door." Variana whispered so she didn't alarm the cow that was passing by behind them.
"Are you crazy? Were going to have to distract them to get to the door." Dean said.
Variana pressed her lips together and took a moment to think.
Without a word, she points her index finger at a large pebble and it slowly levitates from the ground.
"What are you doing?" Gondel whispered worriedly.
She hushed him and kept focusing on her levitating.
Then closing her eyes tight for 2 seconds, the pebble flys toward the gaurds as if it were thrown by someone and hits one of the gaurds head.
Dean let out a short breath of air, "That's it?"
"Would you please be quiet? I know what I'm doing." Variana argued.
The gaurds starts to look around, wondering where the pebble came from. Variana levitates another pebble and it hits another gaurds head. She makes two pebbles hit a gaurds head at once, making Gondel and Dean chuckle. Variana smiles, bites her lip and focus's on her next and last victim. It hits his head leaving a bruise. All the gaurds lose it and start yelling, "Those stupid kids are throwing rocks again!" One of the gaurds pointed to a gang of students walking by the other side of the farm and all the gaurds go after them, leaving the boundary exit ungaurded.
"Idiots." Dean stated. All three of them stood up and hopped over the fence, running to the golden door.
Surprisingly it was unlocked, and they push it wide open with all their strength. Once it was big enough for a human to fit though, they go one by one. Variana was last and had the most trouble getting trough because of her back pack.
"Take it off." Gondel suggested. Variana steps back and takes off the back pack, handing it to Gondel.
One of the gaurds catches Variana in front of the golden door and tells the other three gaurds to look.
They all do and start to run towards the boundaries exit.
Variana slides perfectly through the doors opening. Gondel and Dean push the door close, grunting and panting.
Variana closes her eyes and uses all her knowledge of dark casting, hoping that she could be able to close the heavy door with her mind.
A louded boom alarms her and she snaps her eyes open.
The door was fully shut. Gondel and Dean sat against the door, breathing hard.
Variana picked her back pack off the ground and blurted, "Come on. We have to keep moving."
Gondel and Dean stand up and walk fast enough to catch up behind Variana, going on there way to town.
