Chapter Thirteen

"What are you doing?" Variana asked, rubbing her eyes since she woke up. 

Gondel stands up and stumbles backwards, he was still holding her necklace. 

"Um..." He hands her the necklace, "I was looking if you packed any of my clothes in there... And I found this. It's beautiful."  

She stares at her necklace and wipes the smudges off.  

"I made it during the summer. The idea just came to me."  

Gondel nods and watches Variana as she puts the necklace on.

It was still dark out and birds were flying from tree to tree... Away from something. 

Variana feels a sense of danger, she stands up in an attack position. Taking out a dagger from her bag, zipping it up and slipping her hands through, she walks slowly towards the stream. It was making strange noises.  

Small bubbles were popping, Variana kneels down at the very edge of the stream staring at the bubbles. 

A shot of water hits her eye and she hisses in pain. 

Gondel pulls her away from the stream and starts waking Dean up, "get up. Come on we have to go!" 

Dean wakes up right away, alarmed and looking at his surroundings.  

More water shoots out from the stream and hitting Variana again.  

Gondel wonders why it was only hitting her. Thinking, he sees why. 

Her necklace. 

It's attracting the water...

Gondel catches up with Variana who was running away from the stream, "Your necklace!"  

She stops running but dodges another shot of water.  

"What?!" She yells out. 

"Take off the necklace!"  

She quickly understands and unclips the necklace, throwing it to the ground.  

The water in the stream stops bubbling and calms down to a still flowing stream.

Gondel walks towards the necklace on the ground, "I don't think nature approves of your choices."  

He then takes the dagger from Variana's hand and stabs the necklace, breaking it into pieces. 

Variana watches in pain as her creation was destroyed, "Stop!" She yelled. 

Gondel stops but the damage was already done.  

"What. Why would you do that?!"  

He stares at her giving a 'are-you-stupid' face, "That necklace is going to cause us trouble in this forest, we won't make it out alive with you having it on. The ground feels your presense, your confusion of what you want to be... And It doesn't like it."  

Dean walks up to them, "What the hell is going on?"  

"We have to keep moving. We can't stay long in one place." Gondel simply says. 

He walks off, leaving Variana and Dean looking at each other oddly. Dean shrugs and walks with Gondel.

Variana stares at the broken necklace, it levitates off the ground and lands on her palm. She stuffs the pieces in her pocket and follows right behind the other two.
