Chapter Three
"Why is the Dark World becoming more of a threat?" Variana asked.
Gondel took a deep breath because it was complicated to explain, but he was going to try his best.
"Long ago the Light and Dark Casters made a treaty to have equal amount of powers and land-- well you know that. So, the lord of the Dark World sent a message to our lord, that the reincarnation of The Special One had occurred. We were informed about this 18 years ago. The reincarnation happens every 100 years or so from what I heard. The Special One chooses what side it wants to join to be their ally. To help that world strengthen and grow. And so the Dark World has gotten desperate; they want The Special One." Gondel finished to give Variana some time to understand.
"How does the Dark World know the Special One has reincarnated?" She asked.
Gondel had opened a door to an open room right when Variana asked that question. There were two king sized beds on each side, and a huge window that allowed a lot of light to enter the room and brighten everything up. He closed the door behind them and Variana sat on a bed that had a creamy-pink comforter.
She then darts her eyes at Gondel, waiting for an answer, but he was busy looking outside the window.
Variana stood up and looked out the window as well. An amazing garden showed itself. A glistening fountain floated above the ground so water fell from the fountain and into the ground. It doesn't make puddles, it magically sinks into the cemented grounded.
"You haven't answered my question." Variana stated.
"I don't know."
"You don't know why you haven't answered my question?" Gondel chuckled and glanced at Variana, "No. I mean I don't know why the Dark Casters think that the Special One has reincarnated now." Putting the emphasis on 'now'. Variana nodded and kept admiring the Garden. "You never told me why you left." Gondel said.
"I- I just left. Okay?!" Variana said sternly."You said you felt like you finally found a place where you belong. You leave and don't want to come back because of your daddy? You couldn't have been homesick, for sure. Whenever I asked you about how your dad was doing you wouldn't know. Why did you go back home?"
Variana breathed in deeply and closed her eyes. A lamp on a night stand started to shake then flew across the room and hit a wall breaking into pieces. Gondels mouth fell open, "H-how did you do that?" Variana's eye lids opened quickly. "This is why I left... I don't know what I am"
"What are you talking about?" He questioned.
"I LEFT BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BE!" She screamed.
Gondel was puzzled but kept listening. "You remember Wesly, right?" She asked. He nodded. "Wesly told me he didn't want to be a Light Caster anymore... So he asked me if I should join along with him with the Dark Casters. He taught me a few Dark spells like how to throw and levitate things around, not just a shining ball I have to make myself... and I liked it..." she sighs, " I told him I would go with him... The night we were going to ditch this place, I changed my mind. I had a feeling it wasn't right leaving but it wasn't right staying..."
Gondel stared at Variana, he felt sad for her. Variana continues, "I didn't know what side I should of chosen yet... But it was too late to switch. I was forced to stay so I did until the school year ended. So I went back home with my dad and took care of him..." Gondel placed both of his hands on Varianas shoulders and whispered, "I'll help you decide which side you want to join... If that's alright?"
Variana smiled, "really? You'll do that for me?"
"I would do anything for you."
She stared into his hazel eyes and he stared into her blue eyes. Gondel leaned in for a kiss but a knock interuppted there moment. He was annoyed but it seemed like it didn't bother Variana. She bit her lips and stepped back a few steps. "I'll get it." Gondel said. He walked to the door and opened it slightly to see only the mans face. It was Harold, Gondel's best friend. "Gondel!" Harold exclaimed.
"Hey man!" Gondel and Harold shook hands patted each others backs. Harold seemed to notice the pieces of glass from the lamp. "What happened in here?" Harold questioned. "She's having some issues today." Gondel said gesturing towards Variana who was rolling her eyes at him. Harold waved and greeted himself to Variana. "Shall we go to the dining hall? They're serving dinner now." Harold asked.
They all agreed to go eat and sat together at a round table with Dean and Kiara, a Light Caster newbie. "So our classes start at 9... In the morning?" Kiara asked for the hundredth time. "Yup." Dean said starting to get annoyed. Harold and Gondel chit chatted about there summer and all the places they traveled to. Since Casters can pop up anywhere on Earth with a snap of there fingers, everyone has these competitions about who has been around the world in less than 30 days or, whose been to the most places. But of course you couldn't snap out of the school, it had this magical boundary on it.
The conversation was boring Variana so she zoned out and didn't notice she was making a fork next to her hand, slowly rise from the table. Gondel noticed and took actions right away. He slammed the table with his fist and everyone in the dining hall looked at him oddly, especially Variana. The fork was right back in it's place on the table.
Everybody at the table was still staring at him wondering what was going on. Gondel needed an excuse, "Uh... My- my cup is empty. Sorry. Excuse me." He picked up his cup and stood up from the table. While going around the table he stopped next to Variana and whispered in a rush but she heard it clearly, "Be more aware of your actions."
He then left the dining hall.
