Chris's furious eyes were trained on Project 937. Aurora was confused as she watched Chris unlock her cell.
"Get in." He ordered her, but he still wasn't looking at her.
His eyes bore deeply into Project 937. Aurora listened and the door slammed closed behind her. She took a step forward to her bed when she heard the yelling. His yelling. For once Chris's anger wasn't directed at Aurora, it was directed at someone else.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!" He roared causing Aurora to pause her step and just stand their eavesdropping instead.
She had nothing better to do.
"I was given the order to train her, and I have complied." Project 937 said evenly.
"You were given the order not to hurt her! Don't you remember me telling you not to hurt her?!"
"I do."
"Then why the fuck would you do that?! She has no combat skills! Aurora should be building up her strength, learning exercises and stretching right now! You had no right to throw her into combat!" Chris seethed.
"You didn't see her. She just walks around like she's some half dead creature. If she doesn't learn to fight back, she will be trampled." Project 937 resorted.
"I gave you your orders." He repeated.
"Yes, but so did Director King. The last I checked, he still outranked you." She said.
The silence that followed was the dangerous quiet just before the storm. Having heard enough, Aurora limped away to her bed and laid down on the hard surface. She could hear a scuffle outside her door, along with lots of yelling. Several other voices joined Chris and Project 937, but Aurora didn't care. She just wished they'd all shit up so she could sleep. She was so exhausted she couldn't even wipe the dried blood from her body.
Eventually, after what felt like an eternity, the voices retreated. The door to her cell opened and Chris walked through. He was mostly unharmed besides his one black eye from where apparently Project 937 had landed a punch. Chris walked over to Aurora's side.
"I'm so sorry, Aurora. I told her not to pull this shit with you." He said apologetically.
"I've had worse done to me. You've done worse to me." She replied quietly.
Anger flashed through his eyes again.
"Don't say that. You know whatever trouble the little brat caused had nothing to do with us." He ordered.
She didn't reply and he left her side to open her drawer and pull out towels. She didn't bother asking him what he was doing. Chris wet the towels in the small sink in the bathroom before walking to Aurora once again. She had sat up by now and watched his every movement wearily.
"Let me get you cleaned up." Chris said, moving forward with a towel.
She pulled away. Maybe it was a stupid thing to act on her instinct, but she was tired of being touched. She just wanted to be left alone.
"Come on, we need to clean your wounds or they could get infected." He frowned.
"They probably will just end up infected anyway. I haven't showered since I arrived and that was what? Three days ago?" Aurora pointed out.
"You'd rather shower?" Chris asked her.
She didn't respond, but he wrung out the towels in the sink and started toward the door.
"I'll see what I can get arranged." He promised.
"I'm too tired right now." She protested weakly.
He didn't listen and left the room. A few minutes later, a female guard entered and informed Aurora she would be taking her to shower. Aurora wanted to ignore the guard and just close her eyes and try to sleep, but she forced her aching body to stand up. She followed the woman to the showering room, which luckily wasn't that far away. The guard told her where to put her bloody clothes and where to find new ones. Then she went around the corner so Aurora could pull the curtain closed and have at least some resemblance of privacy.
