They both walked quietly in the damp forest so as to not get caught by the failed ones by starting a ruckus and alerting the nearby guards. Suddenly Amari hits her head against a concrete wall. Oltura knows this wall : it's the secondary exit, the easiest exit to get through. Well, for her at least.
-What...is this the...Amari utters out in disbelief.
-Yes...The secondary exit, the only way out is either to climb it, fly over it, or to take out the guards. Which one ? Oltura whispers to Amari. They were crouched behind a tree so the cameras wouldn't catch them out in the open.
-Let's take the guards out then fly over the exit. That way they won't sound the alarm. Sounds good ?Amari whispers back, huddled up against Oltura who was covering her with her wings in order to hide the hospital gown from the cameras.
-Let's do this, Amy...Oltura whispered with confidence.
-It's Amari but fine...She giggled quietly as they began to execute their plan.
Oltura flew towards the cameras widening her unblinking eyes. For a split second, everything turned white. When Amari's eyes readjusted, she saw that the cameras had been blown out.
Amari leapt to the top of the wall, snapping the neck of each guard while Oltura flew over the wall and shattered the cameras with a power gust of wind from her wings. Amari jumped down the other side and Oltura, panicking for an instant, tried to catch her mid air but the two girls crashed toground. Neither of them were harmed but they were covered with cuts and bruises.
-You should consider yourself lucky I caught you, otherwise you wouldn't be breathing by now. Oltura said quietly, giggling silently as she watched her friend who was holding on to her upper arm tightly in shock with her tail tucked between her legs like a frightened cat.
Finally, Amari let go and brushed the dirt off her shift.
-I-I did it on purpose idiot! Amari said a bit too loudly before storming off with her ears down in embarrassment.
-Amari...what am I going to do with you?...Oltura mused to herself.
-What did you say!? She yelled from the patch of trees
-Nothing Amari! Let's set up a camp near the lake. I know there's one around this part of the secondary exit! She said, catching up to Amari.
As they made their way towards the lake Amari heard a strange noise coming from between the trees. She stopped and placed her hand on Oltura's arm.
-What is it ? Oltura asked, tense at the sight of Amari's alert gaze.
-I heard something. Amari whispered.
Suddeny a low growling became apparent to Oltura as well, a humming that grew to a low roar. The leaves of the forest seemed to tremble in anticipation, or fear. It was as if the whole forest was holding its breath, waiting ...
