-We are at the end of the line.

MR ROBERT cleared his throat, "Now that you're all settled, may I have your attention please?"

The chatter instantly dies down and the chemistry students turn their attention to their teacher.

He went on, "The last pairs for today would go ahead to demonstrate their experiment."

He goes on to clarify why he chose not to go for choice pairing and paired them with someone different so they could connect better.

He stretched his arms, "We'd start with the first pair, now Girls step forward quickly."

Mindy and Lola moved to the front of the classroom. Lola began, "To the left is a piece of Cooper and to the right is nitric acid."

Mindy goes on, "When you place a piece of Cooper in nitric acid the Cu2+ ions and nitrate ions coordinate to colour the solution green, then brownish green as you can see as Lola demonstrates."

Mindy pointed to the table, "If you dilute the solution, water displaces nitrate ions around the copper and the solution changes to blue."

Immediately as the solution turns blue, Lola smiled. "That's our experiment."

"Thanks, girls." Mr Robert said. The class claps, "Next up, Jeremy and Kim."

After the table is cleared, the chemicals are placed.

Kim said excitedly, "On the table are Hydrogen peroxide, potassium iodine and some food colouring. Our experiment is the elephant toothpaste."

They earned a few groans from the class. She went on nevertheless, "As you can see the chemical reaction between the peroxide and potassium iodine plus the food colouring shoots out a column of foam."

The foam shot out but was met with less enthusiasm from the students than in the first experiment.

The claps were led by Mr Roberts, "Well, this is the fifth time this experiment will be carried out. Anyway, wonderful work from Jeremy and Kim."

Mr Robert tapped the table, "Elliot and Ryker step up please,"

They moved to the front of the class.

Ryker said sharply, "What we have here is sugar in a beaker and sulphuric acid,"

Ryker smiled, "As you see Elliot stirs in some concentrated sulphuric acid. The sulphuric acid removes water from sugar in a highly exothermic reaction, releasing heat, steam and sulfur oxide fumes."

Elliot speaks after Ryker, "Aside from the sulphurous odour, the reaction smells a lot like caramel. As you can see the white sugar turns into a black carbonised tube that pushes itself out of the beaker."

Ryker nodded, "And that's our experiment."

The class clapped, the table was cleaned and Mr Roberts walked to the front of the class.

"Nice job boys," He clapped. "I love the experimental demonstrations of today but can we all agree on no more elephant toothpaste for now."

The class laughs and nods in agreement.

Elliot was at the ice cream shop with Sam after school, Elliot let him in on what Mindy told him.

Sam frowned, "Really? Ongoing issues in the football team?"

Elliot nodded then sighed pretentiously, "Tragic, it's just tragic."

Sam eyed him, "Dial back on the reaction, you don't care that much." He said earning a chuckle from Elliot.

He moved closer to the table. "By the way, I don't know dude, that sounds like fake news to me, I'm friends with some of the guys on the team and they don't look like they have any issues going on."

Elliot sounded convinced, "Come on Mindy said it, her brother Trey is on the football team. I bet you twenty bucks it's true."

Sam rolled his eyes and scowled. "Dude everyone knows you and Sebastian don't get along, come on you know Mindy jokes a lot. She could have made it up to mess with you."

"No Sam," Elliot muttered. "She mentioned Trey and Sean weren't talking—"

Sam's eyes stray off Elliot and lands on a girl walking into the shop. Elliot catches sight of his arched brow and turns to see what made him arch a brow.

"Oh it's Jessica," He muttered.

"You know her?" Sam asked him.

Elliot nodded, and he faced Sam. "My Mum's friends with hers, I've seen her a couple of times with Kyla."

Sam smiles, "Did Kyla tell you she's dating someone?"

Elliot licked his spoon, he grimaced. "No, she isn't even that close to Kyla and I don't plan on asking my sister if her friend is single."

"Just thought Kyla would've mentioned it."

Elliot shook his head.

Sam taps Elliot, "She's leaving, call her."

Elliot ignored him, "Why should I?"

Sam managed a smile, "One platinum card,"

Elliot's eyes widened, "Oh wow you're serious," He laughed then he called for Jessica and managed to pull her to the table after a brief hug.

"This is my friend, Sam," He bit back a laugh.

Jessica threw a smile and shook hands with him. "I'm Jessica,"

Elliot notices his friend's genuine smile. He held back a laugh, butting in now and then in their conversation, he couldn't help but feel like a third wheel.

After some minutes of playful banter, Jessica decides to leave. Sam offers to walk her out of the shop leaving Elliot to his sundae. He returned minutes later, he sighed heavily.

Elliot rubbed his chin, "She's got a boyfriend?"

"Yeah." He said dejectedly.

Elliot tapped his shoulder, "Cheer up bud."

Sam leans back. He laughs softly, "Sure,"
