A.P.V.

"Hey! Come back here!" Came a cry in annoyance.

I didn’t dare glance behind me as I ran through the night, my bag whipping behind me. I could tell the officers were close on my tail as I hurled around a corner, almost slamming into a wall after experiencing a burst of speed. My feet slid across the muddy cobblestone as I fought to keep my footing and stay upright.

“What are we running from?”

Plagg popped up beside me, now back in his kwami form, as he flew in pace with my steps. His eyes glinted under the moonlight as he tilted his head in curiosity.

“The cops,” I told him as I dodged a garbage can. “They tend to mistake me for some kind of cat burglar whenever they spot me at night.”

“That’s ridiculous,” Plagg huffed as he phased through a drain pipe in his path. “You look nothing like a cat burglar. If we added some ears, though, and maybe a tail, then you’d look the part.”

I opened my mouth to argue as I turned a corner when I noticed the alley I had chosen was a dead end.

“Crap, this isn’t looking good,” I swore under my breath as I finally risked a look behind me. The officers were just rounding the corner, but I could tell by their grins that they knew my time of being a free citizen was almost up.

“Don’t worry, they can’t catch us,” Plagg scoffed as he floated closer.

“Uh, have you noticed the large wall blocking the end of this alley?”

“Psh, I’ve seen bigger and longer for that matter,” Plagg shook off my worries. “In fact, there once was this large wall that spanned-”

“Plagg!” I shouted, as the wall drew nearer, and my time to think grew shorter.

“Don’t worry, kid,” Plagg grinned at me. “Just keep running at that wall, and when I say jump, you jump. You’ve got me now, remember?”

I wanted to say something in retort, but time was running out, and there didn’t seem to be any other choice at the moment. Well, there was the option of being caught but after the stunts I’d already pulled and the fact I was technically grounded, who’s to say my father would ever let me out of his sight again. Then again, at least I would actually see him for once.

“Hey, are you even paying attention?”

I glanced back at Plagg and sighed before I turned my attention back to the running full speed at the wall.

“Yeah, yeah, I heard you,” I huffed. “When you say jump, I-”

“Jump!” Plagg suddenly screamed before I could finish speaking.

Without even a moment to think, I pushed off the ground with all my strength and felt my weight lift. I squeezed my eyes shut as I hurled forward and upward, and just as I was expecting to splat across the stone wall, I felt my shoes ever so slightly brush the top of the wall. Opening my eyes, the streets flashed into view, far beneath my feet as I found myself having fully cleared the wall.

“Holy crap!” I yelled as gravity began to take its hold on me again. “How did I do that?!”

“It’s all possible thanks to a little something called cat power,” Plagg grinned as he flew in pace beside me. “And a bit of ancient magic, of course.”

“Awesome, now how do I land?”

“Uh, tuck and roll?” Plagg offered, shrugging as I flailed my arms in an attempt to slow myself.
