Waan is back in Chonburi. He goes about doing his work, putting missing his boyfriend at the back of his mind. He is so caught up that he doesn't notice his father enter the office. He hears someone clear his throat and is startled when he sees the man in front of him. "Dad. What are you doing here?"
"I just wanted to come see how you were doing, I wanted to leave with you but you were gone before I even woke up."
"Sorry, I had some important things to get done. Do you want to go over the reports? Is there something you need me to do?" He stops working and gives his father his complete attention.
"No, relax." He hesitates not knowing how to approach his son.
"Dad, just say it. What's going on?" He sees his dad look kind of nervous, since when?
"Uhm, would you like to go for lunch with your old man?"
"Sure." He wakes up and starts tidying up his desk. He opens the drawer and takes out his wallet and keys, making sure he has his phone. He dials the front desk, "I'm going out for lunch, forward any urgent calls if they come through." He looks at his dad, seeing the man standing still just looking at him. "Dad?"
He shakes himself out of the stupor, "Nothing, just... No arguing today?"
He laughs, "No. We're too old for that now don't you think?" He pats his back and walks out.

Waan knows now is the time to ask his father all the things he wanted to know, taking his boyfriends advice. "I want to say I'm sorry." He watches the confusion spread on his dads face. "May I speak freely?"
"Always son."
"When we were younger, we were happy. We always did things together as a family. You and mom were always present at sports, school activities, even just building a fort in the tiny bedrooms we had, I remember it all so vividly. What changed? One day you were there and the next day you weren't. It was as if you became obsessed with always having more." He sees the pain in his fathers eyes. "No, don't take this the wrong way, I'm not criticizing you or judging you. I just want to know what happened."
He swallows, he was so enthralled in doing better, being better that he missed out on so much. His children are all grown up and don't need him anymore, that's a feeling no parents wants to experience, especially when you weren't present for all the important events that took place in their lives. "As a kid you were always the best brother to Win and Wiew, looking after them, protecting them, caring for them. We knew how the people made fun of you and the boys, picking on you because you were poor. We also knew how you shielded them from that, taking it all on yourself. We watched you turn from a happy kid to putting on a mask everyday for the sake of your brothers. What you didn't know Waan was that your brothers saw it, all of it. So one year it was your birthday and we saved up and bought you new clothes. Your mother baked your cupcakes for school, we spent a little extra on candy and snacks, we wanted you to be accepted. You were a great kid but nobody gave you a chance because of your status. Everything we had went on private school tuition thinking it would be better for you boys, but it was worse because you were thrown into a pool of people who were on the other end of the spectrum from us."
He takes in a breath and has a sip of water trying to clear the dryness in his throat, "On your birthday, it was the same day as Wins school outing to the science fair. He came to you crying, scared because you were not going to be around and he would be picked on. Without even hesitating you told him its okay and you have a plan. When Win came home that day we noticed him wearing the clothes we bought for you, I sat him down seeing he had been crying and he told me what you did for him."
