Chapter Ten
Luke waited outside of the throne hall, standing by the door. His palms were sweating nervously. It wasn't everyday that the King of England called a lowly pirate. He resisted the urge to pace back and forth, wanting to convey the image that he was calm and collected. Surely showing that he was nervous in front of the King was a bad idea.
King Kronos the First was known as a cruel man. A ruthless man who would cut down any who opposed him. Pirates were just one on the long list of people Kronos would exact vengeance on. They were stealing from him most of the time after all.
The doors opened, and a Royal Guard stepped into the room. "The King will see you now." He said.
Luke followed the man inside. The Hall was long and furnished lavishly. A red carpet led up to the throne, which was a seat made out of gold with red pillows and cushions to keep Kronos's tushy from becoming sore. The white walls of the palace shined brilliantly, as if dust itself feared the King enough to not settle on the walls. The ceiling was made out of the same materials as the walls, but in the middle, right over the red carpet, was a line of glass that allowed a view out to the sky.
King Kronos sat on his throne as he watched Luke with amusement. Kronos was a man of impressive stature. He stood taller than everyone in the room, with no tricks to give that illusion. He just was that tall. He had black hair that simultaneously stuck up everywhere and fell across his face. His hair fell in front of his golden eyes, which seemed to shine in the sunlight. He was a muscular man too, though it was hidden by the many layers he wore. Golden and red robes clothed the man, each one with a white trim. A crown hung crookedly on Kronos's head, glittering with jewels and gems.
Luke slowly walked the red carpet and kneeled before Kronos. "My Lord."
"Rise, Luke Castellan." Kronos said. His voice was strange. It sounded like knives scraping against stone.
Luke rose to his feet and looked at the King. Kronos lounged back on his throne and eyed the pirate. "No need to worry, Luke." He said, putting on an easy smile. "I haven't called you here for your... lifestyle choices."
"You haven't?"
"No." Kronos said. "I've called you here because of your crewmate."
"My crewmate?"
"Well, more like your... former... captain. The, uh, Percy Jackson."
Luke let out a noise that seemed to be a mix of a scoff and a laugh. "I left his ass on an island. That was weeks ago. Surely he's offed himself at this point."
Kronos laughed without any humor. "You left his ass on an island huh? Well, I guess his ghost must've been sneaking around Othrys then."
Luke stopped laughing. "He was at Othrys?"
Kronos nodded. "Indeed. And he was busy too. Stole the Governor's daughter, who, just so happens, to be my grandniece. Now, I don't appreciate my relatives being kidnapped. This is an act against the crown, and will not be tolerated."
"Stole her? That doesn't seem like something Percy would do."
"Well, lucky for you, I have a witness." He turned to a guard. "Bring him in."
The guard nodded and walked out of the hall. Silence settled between Luke and Kronos. Luke started to fidget under the King's gaze. Kronos had a smile on his face, but it lacked warmth.
