Chapter Fifteen
By the time the rowboat bumped against the Argo II, Percy's arms were starting to tire. After rowing back and forth from the ship twice, four times of rowing, the fatigue was just now starting to set in.
"Lower the davit!" Percy yelled.
The davit's manilla ropes began to lower. As the hooks reached the ship, Percy yelled at them to stop. The ropes stopped lowering. Percy grabbed one and hooked it onto the hook on the bow of the boat. Zoë did the same at the stern.
"Okay, we're good!"
Slowly, the davit began to lift the boat out of the water. The Argo II began to lean to the side a tiny bit. Water dripped from the keel back into the ocean. Percy and Zoë sat in the rowboat, waiting as they were lifted along the side of the ship.
Finally, the rowboat reached the top of the davit and stopped. Zoë stood up cautiously and grabbed the manilla rope, using it to steady herself. She bit her tongue and steeled herself. Then she jumped overboard. She landed on the deck, face first. She let out a groan and stood up.
Percy smiled in amusement and stood up. He gripped the manilla rope as well and jumped over. He soared through the air with experience and grace only learned through years at sea and landed on his feet.
Zoë rolled her eyes. "Showoff." She muttered under her breath.
Percy turned to the only other person on the deck, the one who lowered the davit, the quartermaster. "Jason, gather everyone and have them meet in the mess hall. We need to have a meeting."
Jason nodded. "Will we remain anchored, Captain?"
"Yes. We won't move until the meeting is over."
Jason left the deck to inform the crew of the meeting. Percy and Zoë left after him, heading to the mess hall for said meeting.
The mess hall was the first room on the left, across from the storage. The room itself was about twice the size of the cabins, and half the size of the Captain's Quarters. (The Captain's Quarters were only that big for aesthetic reasons.) In the middle of the room was a wooden table. Usually the table was set with food made by Percy, but since the Captain was off on the island, the table was empty. Nine chairs surrounded the rectangular table, one at the head, and four on each side. Above the table hung a lantern that filled the room with warm light.
