"Get in the cell you filth." The guard said as he threw Percy into the cell.

The cell door slammed shut before the loud sound of the guard locking the door echoed throughout the room. Percy looked up as the guard left him alone. He sat up and looked around. The cells seemed to be carved into the ground, with walls made of rocks. The door was made of metal. The air had the distinct smell of shit and piss. The rock floor and walls were all damp. In the corner, water dripped into a puddle.

Across from him was another cell door. A prisoner sat, eyes cast on the ground before him.

"Hey." Percy said. The man didn't look up. "Hey you!" He said again, louder this time. This time, the boy looked up.

     "What do you want?"

"Why you here? You a pirate too?"

The boy made a disgusted face. "Hell no. I just stole a piece of bread. I would never be a pirate!"

"Sounds like you're one to me." Percy said, shrugging.

     "Never."

"I mean, you've already stolen. That's the first step."

"But I don't pillage and plunder."

Percy snorted. "Pillage and plunder. Those are just fancy names for stealing."

"Sure they are." The boy said sarcastically.

Percy rolled his eyes. "You want out?"

"You can't get out. I've already tried." The boy said, like he had explained the exact thing before.

Percy shrugged. "I don't know, I seem to get pretty lucky with these types of things."

LINE BREAK

Eli knocked on the governor's door four times. The door opened after a minute to reveal a woman. "Can I help you?" She asked.

"I have urgent news. For the governor!"

The woman studied him, before beckoning him to follow her. She led him through the house, to the massive ballroom in the center of the mansion. The room was decorated, as if prepared for a party. A stage on the back wall, with tables along the opposite of the room. The space in between was large enough for a hundred people to dance without hitting each other.

The governor stood on stage, with his daughter standing next to him. They were talking in hushed whispers. The woman called out, interrupting their conversation.

"What is it, Atlanta?" The governor asked.

"This man says he has news for you."

     "Well, be quick about it!"

Eli stepped forward. "Sir, we caught a pirate."

"A pirate?" The governor asked, his interest piqued.

"Yes sir! We reduced him off of an island, then brought him here. He's locked up right now."

"Well, that is interesting. He shall be hung tomorrow!"

     "Tomorrow, sir?"

"Why, we can't do it today. We have to get ready for the ball tonight!" The governor laughed.

"Of course, sir." Eli said, a little disappointed. Atlanta guided him out of the room and out of the house.

The governor turned to Zoë. "You should start getting ready for the ball, my dear. You have to look your best."
