Selina is looking at me with an incredulous expression, her green eyes wide in shock. "You... Why? Since when?" She shakes her head sadly. "Forget it. It doesn't matter. We can't be together anyway. You're human and I am..."

"Selina... Is this the only reason?" I ask her sadly. "I love you because you're amazing, you're strong, you're smart and funny. I've always felt safe with you and you've always helped me. You were always there when I needed you," I swallow a sob. "I've loved you for more than a year now. And I still do. No matter what happens I want to help you."

"But, Soleil..." I look at her sadly and she stops talking. She swallows and looks at the sky. "I'm sorry, but I think it's better if we don't cross this line. It would only be harder for us."

"Why not?" I ask her desperately. She looks at me with remorse and whispers "Because I can't be in love with you. What if I hurt you..." I lay down on the roof and look at the almost invisible stars and plane lights blinking on the beautiful night sky. It's a warm, summer night. My favorite. I get silent for a few moments, feeling a gentle breeze cross my face.

"Selina. Just tell me this. If you weren't a vampire, would your answer be different?" I saw a small, but sure nod from her. "Alright. I'll show you that we can love each other. I'll wait until you're ready."

With these words I slowly get up and leave the rooftop, letting her sort out her thoughts. I slide under the covers and fall asleep, a few tears falling down my cheeks.

None of us has brought up the confession in the next few days. We've lived like we always did. There hasn't been any changes in our relationship... But I noticed Selina looking at me longingly when she thought I wasn't looking.

"Soleil..." She started hesistantly when I've just finished my breakfast. I look up at her and tilt my head to the side in question. "...I'm leaving. I can't stay here in the city."

I stand up quickly and look at her with a panicked expression. "What!? Why?! Where are you going?!" She looks at me silently for a few moments, like she's searching for something, maybe a certain emotion, on my face.

She wraps her arms around me before replying: "I can't stay here... I don'want to hurt any more people." I feel tears building up in my eyes and hug her tightly. She puts her chin on my head. We stay like this for a few moments, until I calm down slightly. "I'm going with you," I say while looking into her eyes.

"No, you can't come with me. I've already endangered you enough," she protests. There is no way I'm backing down this time though. "If you leave me here I'm going to spend the rest of my human life searching for you," I say, my tone leaving no room for debate. She sighs and then says quietly: "Soleil, if that's really what you want... But it will be dangerous. Are you sure?" I reply: "I'm sure, Selina. I'm not leaving you alone. Ever." She looks a bit shocked, but smiles softly afterwards.

"Just stay with me. Please, " I whisper and caress her back gently. "Soleil... You have to know there's a possibility that I might hurt you. I can't always control the vampire inside me. But I'll do anything in my power to protect you."

I lift my head and look into her eyes. I smile lovingly. "I know you wouldn't hurt me. And I will never ever leave you, because...you know...I love you."

"I think we...we can try...we can try loving each other," she whispers softly and I grin widely at her. "Selina..." I say moved.

She smiles softly and ruffles my hair. "Then it's set. We're running away," I cannot help but gaypanic at how cool she looked in the moment she said those words. And how close we are...

"Where are we going though?" She smirks confidently. "What do you say about a long road trip with a car?" I look at her confused. "But we don't have a car..." She chuckles. "Yet, Soleil, yet."
