Selina POV
"Soleil? Soleil! No!" I watch as the hunters lead her into a basement and push her into a cell. She's saying something, probably cursing at them. My blood boils when one of the hunters gives her a harsh slap. I try to move, but it feels like I'm nothing more than air. "Soleil! How dare you, you bastard!" I start coughing furiosly. "Sole..."
I thrash around and suddenly see a completely different scene before me. What the... I'm lying sideways in my room, a bit of sunlight escaping through the curtains and shining right onto my face.
Swiftly, I turn around but whimper at the sudden pain in my back. "Selina!" For a second, I think it's Soleil calling for help until I notice Gaia standing close, looking at me worriedly.
I sit up slowly and put a hand in front of my face to block the sunlight. "What the fuck," I grit out, having irritated my wound when I rolled over. I thought vampires heal fast...? "You got shot."
I nod. Gaia steps closer to me and puts her hand on my shoulder. "Selina... Why did you leave the arrow in so long? You almost died! You're gonna kill yourself one day. Is it worth it?" I glare at her. "Even if I die, I'm getting Soleil away from there. What if they're hurting her?" I shiver at the image from before, probably a fever dream.
"I'm not leaving her in their hands!" Gaia sighs and touches my back. "I need to check your wound. You're seriously an idiot. If you get shot by an arrow you must not let it stay in your flesh. You're lucky you're still alive!" She shakes her head.
"Are you okay, though?" She asks as she gently inspects the wound. "You kept mumbling her name- Oh god! Selina, I'm sorry, but you'll have to rest for a while. It looks awful! I've never seen anything like this. It seems like they've upgraded their weapons... I'll go get Sigfrid." She leaves in a hurry. I sigh and lay on my side. "Soleil..." I whisper, mourning over losing her once again.
Soleil POV
I wake up lying in the dark, from the sound, I'm assuming inside a moving car. There's a throbbing pain at the back of my head. I try to massage it with my hand, but realize my hands are tied behind my back. I thrash around and somehow manage to get myself into a sitting position.
Again... They got me again. Selina... I feel like crying, but I bite my lip to stop the sob threatening to come out. Is she alright? What if she's- No! She's alright. She has to be. I shake my head and let it fall to my knees.
Then I shoot myself right back up. I can try to reach her! "Selina?! Selina! Are you here? Are you okay?" I get no answer in words, but I feel a warm presence inside my mind. A sob of relief escapes my lips.
Her presence stays with me. I smile sadly. I wish you were here so much... Suddenly the car stops and after a few moments the door opens. I close my eyes at the sudden sunlight. Someone enters and roughly pushes me outside. I lose my balance and scratch my knees on the concrete.
"Get up, traitor!" I'm pulled back up roughly and a few hunters start leading me somewhere. I pale when we enter the castle and they turn to the staircase that leads to the basement.
The warm presence intensifies for a moment. Selina is with me. I need to stay strong. I'm pushed down to the basement. Someone unties my hands before shoving me inside a cell. I turn around furiously and glare at them.
"You won't get away with this, you jerks!" One of them steps forward and slaps me harshly. I grit my teeth and hold back a sob. Suddenly, the air seems to get cooler. Munin enters the cell.
"No violence amongst my troops is tolerated. Take her to the chair." The hunters quickly apologize and take me to the chair I'm very familiar with by now. Not again...
I'm left alone with him again, tied to that stupid chair, the place where he first took my memories with Selina. "I heard you didn't join the battle and that you were talking to that vampiress again. Why?" I scowl at him and reply, voice laced with hatred: "Well, a couple of reasons. I finally remember what she is to me, and that you brainwashed me. Aaand that you fucking kidnapped me before all of that. Why can't you just leave me be, bastard!?"
Munin sighs, looking slightly agitated: "I'm trying to help you. This stupid attachment you feel towards her will not help you once we get rid of her." My breath catches in my throat. What does he mean by that... "W-w-why? She did nothing to you!"
"She's a vampire, like the rest. Cruel, monsterous, bloodthirsty creature. The world is better off without vampires." My blood boils: "They're people too!" The disagreement is evident on his face: "They're blood sucking murderers!"
"What makes you think you're any better?!" I grow confused as Munin goes from looking completely outraged to looking incredibly dejected. "I'm aware. My job here will be done as soon as every vampire on earth is gone. Then I can peacefully rest."
"Well, since you won't remember a thing after I inject the drug, I might as well explain why I made getting rid of all vampires my goal." What drug?! Munin shoves a cloth in my mouth, rendering me unable to word a thing.
I watch him rummage through some drawers as he starts talking again: "I joined SIMP because vampires killed my friend, but that's not the main reason. It all started with a mission." He pulls out some stuff I can't see from this angle, and puts it down next to him.
"But it was no ordinary mission. SIMP sent us into the woods and up a small path, leading to an old castle carved into a mountain side. It went well at the start. We eliminated quite a few vampires. But what we didn't know was that the castle was full of vampires." He turns around, his face emotionless.
"It was a trap. Vampires attacked us out of nowhere. All of us were killed, except for me. Those wretched beings turned me into one of them!" His eyes flash with anger. I'm only looking at him, confused.
"I ran away. I was disgusted at what I had become. But I had a family to take care of. I couldn't just leave them." In this moment, something flashes through his eyes. I believe it was sadness.
"So one night, I returned home." He sighs. "I had a wife, Freya... We loved each other dearly. I would have never hurt her, but..." He turns away. "I still remember how happy she was when she saw me. How her eyes shone upon looking at me. Even when I told her what I had become, she never thought of leaving or letting me go. She still loved me," his voice shakes a bit.
"Listen to me now, Soleil," he says seriously. "For a short time, I was able to pretend that I was normal again... I really loved Freya and our two sons. But one day," his voice gets quieter as he opens another drawer. "One day, I lost control. I needed blood, I couldn't stop myself." He gulps. "I killed them, Soleil. Do you understand what I'm telling you? If Freya had told me to get lost, she'd die of a natural death." He turns back to me and grips my chin.
"She can always hurt you. You can't trust vampires, ma Soleil." My blood boils at his words, and I trash around on the chair, cursing him through the cloth. Selina wouldn't do that! And you aren't allowed to call me that, you bastard!
He looks at me sadly. "You really aren't giving me another choice." He goes to the drawers and picks up a syringe filled with weird, light red liquid. I look at it horrified and trash around even more fiercely. "I'm sorry it has to end like this. Now, you will truly become a loyal SIMP member." He puts the syringe on the shelf next to the chair and takes a gas tank.
He opens the lid, and gas starts coming out. I try to stay awake, but my eyelids slide shut regardless. "Sweet dreams," the last thing I see before blacking out is him picking up the syringe.
