Chapter 10: A Rocky Start

We headed towards the gym after around 25 minutes of litten training to learn double kick in hopes I have a chance to beat it. Thankfully the gym is open so we can finally challenge the gym. We entered the gym, it was full of rock sculptures of different types of pokemon. We'd expect to just challenge the gym leader, but we all had to beat a trainer that specializes in rock types. This would've been a much more difficult battle if we had challenged it before the museum incident since we had only level 10 pokemon while this trainer had level 14 pokemon. Since we fought the grunts at the museum, all of our pokemon are level 15 now. Sky and Mage beat the trainer with ease. Aria and Chalk struggled a bit, but still managed to beat the trainer. Alex treecko almost fainted on the first trainer, but luckily fainted their pokemon in the end. It was my turn at the trainer this time, I've been waiting for this moment ever since we got in here... which has only been 15 minutes-. Anyways, here's how the fight went. I decided litten should use lick first hoping for paralysis, spoiler alert it did not get paralyzed. Their geodude went for defense curl. I went for lick again and luckily paralyzed it. Though it managed to get another defense curl off. This was the moment I was waiting for. I told litten to use double kick. It hits one... and the other one misses. But it seems my luck was still on my side since the geodude stayed paralyzed. I tried double kick again, like before one missed one hit, but it was enough to defeat the trainer. I sighed in relief after winning that battle. I looked up to my friends as they congratulated me. But I wasn't happy, litten wasn't able to pull off a double kick and the next trainer is the gym leader. I can only hope it works this time.

We all head up a set of stairs made out of stone. When we reached the top we saw Brock waiting there still shirtless like before. "It's nice to see you guys again. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Brock. I am the first out of eight gym leaders you'll have to face. I wish you all the best of luck, and let the battles begin!" Brock exclaimed. This was it, this was the final obstacle we need to pass to get the first badge. All we had to do was beat him in a pokemon battle. Mage went first eagerly, since he wanted to show off to the girls since Brock had stolen the attention before. He had a water type starter so we all know how that ended. He won very easily. Alex went up next still mesmerized about Brock's body. Chalk slapped her to get her attention since she was about to lose. She managed to beat him in the end with her Treecko surviving on 2 HP. Talk about close calls, even though my battle will probably be a closer call. Chalk was up next, he had probably the most normal battle out of us all. He was hit once or twice, but still pulled through. Sky was up next, like Mage, her battle was a breeze. She had a grass starter so Brock couldn't really do anything about it. Aria went up, but like Alex she was mesmerized also. Though she wasn't as mesmerized so Chalk didn't need to slap her back to reality to win the fight. She had a water starter so she beat it with ease.

It's now my turn to face Brock. He led with a geodude, like the other trainer I did the same strategy. Though this time the geodude managed to hit my litten once getting to half HP and litten was still hitting one of the kicks when using his double kick move. Brock only had 2 pokemon, so all I had to do was defeat one more pokemon, but his next pokemon was an onix. I knew I had only one shot at this. So I went for it. "Litten use double kick!" I yelled. Litten hit the first then missed the second. I was crushed. I knew the attack he had next would end my litten. "I'm sorry kid, but this is how it ends, Onix use rock tomb!" Brock yells. The rock tomb missed, it was a miracle. I was still looking at the ground, too sad to notice. Then I hear "Leo that battle is not over! He missed his attack!" Sky said, cheering me on. I looked up seeing my litten stare at me. "Lets win this battle" I said as I pet my litten. I needed both of these kicks to hit to win the battle, so I went for it again. "Litten use double kick!" I exclaimed. Litten went in for the attack, he hit one... and the second one! The onix fainted! My litten had done it! It finally mastered double kick and we won the battle! I ran up to my litten and carried him in the air in celebration. Brock looked at us and smiled. "Congratulations on beating your first gym" he said as he pulled something out of his pocket. They were mini badges. "Take one it shows that you have beaten the first gym" Brock said. We all took one and were about to leave until.. "Hold on! There's still one more thing. Catch!" Brock said as he threw TM's at us. We all catch one. "Those contain the move rock tomb, you'll get a TM from every gym you beat as a reward!" Brock yelled from afar. We wave to him as we leave the gym. 1 down, 7 to go. The challenge has only begun.
