Over the past few weeks I have been trying to find out more on who I am. Unfortunately I didn't come up with any successful results. One day I found out a startling discovery. I happened to come across my parents study, which always seems to be locked for a particular reason. I have never been in there before. So curiosity took over and I walked inside. At first it looked pretty normal. As I explored some more I found out it was far from normal.
I happened to stumble across an old bookshelf filled with all of my parents favourite books. I found one of my favourites there too. That was Treasure Island. I tried picking it up,but it didn't lift up. Instead I heard a strange noise and soon the 'bookshelf' moved away to make way to a secret passageway.
Saying it was incredible was an understatement, I never had seen so many different and beautiful artefacts and treasures. I wondered what my parents were doing with in the first place. I continued to walk around and found plenty more treasures and some other junk. Then a large yellow envelope caught my eye. I felt a bit guilty going through my parents stuff but I had to know what was inside the envelope, something told me it was important.
As soon as I saw what was inside, my legs turned to jelly and I collapsed onto the floor, tears flowing down my cheeks. My breakdown, was a loud enough for my parents to hear. They walked in, shocked at where I was. They were surprised that I found this place. I could hear them whispering, " Richard why did you leave the door open?" My mother hissed . " She was going to find it sooner or later." My dad replied in a hushed tone, not realising I could hear them.
"When were you planning to tell me I was adopted? " I shouted. " Maybe you never were." I continued arguing, not giving them a chance to respond. "Sweety, we were waiting for the right time." My mom said, trying to calm me down. " The right time?... The right time, I don't think there would ?Have ever been a right time." I said incredulously. " We were going to tell you, it's just as hard for us as it is to you." My dad said softly. " Do you know that I'm supernatural?" I questioned them. They didn't respond. " Well do you?" I asked agin, growing impatient. "Yes... But-" cutting her off." That's all I need to know" I said bitterly before walking out of the secret passageway, out of the study, out of the door and out of the house, that's fed me lies all my life.
There was only one place I could go and that was Jake, cause he was the only one who would understand. I don't think Liam will be able to help me out right now. Jake knows who my 'parents' are.
I walked over to his house, it wasn't that far from mine. I knocked three times and he answered. " Katy what are you doing here?, it's late." Jake asked, shocked at my surprising visit. " Well I just found out my whole life was a lie." I said soflty, tears threatening to return. With that, he softened and allowed me inside.
" So what did you find out." He asked with concern. " For starters, I found out that I was adopted. Secondly they knew I was supernatural the whole time. " I said angrily. "So Dr Deaton was right?" Which was more of a statement than a question. " Yeah I guess he was. I just didn't think that would be true. I hoped he was wrong but deep down i knew he was right" I said as tears started running down my cheeks. "It's okay, we will work this out. I promise you" he said, pulling me into a hug.
I told him everything about how the study was never open and the secret passageway that opened from tugging on my favourite book. He was just as shocked as me. " I can't believe that was always there, and all it took was a little curiosity to find that place. what if the door was never opened. I would never found out the truth. That means my so -called parents never would have told me I was adopted and I could have been living a lie for the rest of my life."
" Well maybe they had a good reason for not telling you, I mean they were only protecting you." Jake said simply. " Really Jake, you are taking their side. After everything I told you. I thought you be more understanding." I said angrily. Feeling betrayed by his lack of understanding. " You twisting my words. I'm just trying to say that maybe they know you aren't ready, especially with moving to a new school and everything. They want to make it easier." He said calmly.
" You really think they were going to tell me if I didn't find out. I don't think they would have. Cause they would have wanted to maintain our happy little family. So I'm sorry if I don't see eye to eye with you or my parents." I said out of breath.
" Katy, I'm really sorry about what happened I truly am, but don't you think you are going a little overboard with this. At least you still have people who care about you. I don't have any parents anymore. Don't push them away, cause you will regret it. They are still acted as your parents. Just give it some time. You will have to forgive them eventually. I just don't want you to make the wrong decision." He said softly.
"You right. Thanks Jake! That's why you are my best friend." I smiled. " That's what I'm here for." He smirked. I slapped him playfully. " Is it okay if stay here tonight, cause I really feel like facing my parents after what happened today." I asked. " " Yeah of course, how could I say no to you. Besides I need the company." He smiled .
