Jordan P.

I sat in my room with my journal in front of me and pen in my hand. Today was the anniversary of day my best friend Y/N and I met in college. The only thing is Y/N no longer lived in the states. She did a study abroad course in London before she graduated college; she loved it so much she decided to move there. We try to keep in touch as much as possible, but with the different time zones and challenges, you can imagine how hard that is.

Y/N loved to receive hand written notes and letters. She was obsessed with time before electronics. That's how we met actually. I was sitting in the library journaling and she waltz right on in with a big smile on her face as she approach the librarians desk. She grabbed a book from her and walked in my direction I assumed to find a seat and read when she stopped at the desk I occupied.

She did a quite gasp and asked "Are you journaling?" I looked at her and nodded my head yes with a small smile. I had been taking a class that was dedicated to the art of photography and journalism, because it was something I was quite interested in outside of basketball. After telling her yes she asked to sit with me and we begin to talk about journalism after finding out that was her major. Since then we were tight at the hip... that was until I got drafted in 2019 causing me to leave the University of Michigan while she stayed finishing up her degree.

We never loss touch, she supported me the whole way through as did I. I made it to her graduation luckily and the gleam that was in her eyes that day was something I'll never forget. She looked so happy and so very beautiful. It was in that moment I knew that I had fallen in love with her. All the world came crashing down when she told me she accepted a job offer in England. I felt like any chance of me having her as mine fully went out the window.

The night before she left the states we sat on the phone for hours. My chest was heavy, my heart was ready for her to leave. She was my all in all and didn't know. She made my heart race, always took my breath away but in the same sense made it easy to breath. We made a pact as much as we could we'd text and talk on the phone, but she alway threw in we should start writing each other letters.

So here I was alone with my thoughts; writing her this letter. I loved her, and now I needed her to know this too.

'You take my mind over, If I haven't told you, it's you and me. Will you tell me if you agree?'

I wrote out, Listen to your heart, you've know from the start, my mind told me which was true. I always knew Y/N and I's connection was deeper than meets the eye. It's just I was so afraid of what if I was reading into things too deep and she truly only saw me as just a friend. My pen continued to flow the words that came deep from my heart on to the lined paper.

'You and I would never grow apart, that's when I look at you and realize, you changed my life for the better, so I'll stay in this moment Y/N, forever stay focused on you. And I mean forever and ever.'

I wrote. This letter wasn't a spur of the moment thing. I knew I was going to write this; I spent hours and hours, days upon days, just tryna figure out the right words.

'I know I'm not perfect Y/N, but I wanna be perfect for you. Let me be the one for you.. forever Y/N.' I wrote ending the note.

Carefully removing the note from my journal; I then placed it in the envelope sealing it off. We were currently coming up on NBA All-Star break, so a lightbulb went off. I should deliver my note in person. I quickly pulled out my laptop and booked a last minuet flight to London. If I was going to do this I wanted to do this in person. I wanted to look her in her eyes when I profess my love for her, it was only right.

After booking my flight, I grabbed my suitcase and begin to pack my bag, I'm going to London to get my girl.

London, England

Y/N walked into her apartment after a long day of interviews and working. Letting out a deep sigh as she unclipped her heels throwing herself onto her sofa. Suddenly her eyes pooped open as she realized today was hers and Jordan's friend anniversary. Slapping herself in the face she quickly grabbed her phone looking at the time '7:43' p.m she read meaning it was '12:43' p.m in San Francisco. She clicked on Jordan's contact pressing FaceTime only for it to immediately be declined.

Great now he's mad at me she thought to herself. Letting out another sigh, she made her way to her room to shower in hopes to somehow soften the blow for forgetting such a special day to both her and Jordan. After showering and completing her night routine; Y/N begin to sit and read her's and Jordan's new book they were joint reading.

'Never Let Me Go' by Kazuo Ishiguro. It was a book about 3 children names Ruth, Kathy, and Tommy, navigating their childhood at a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. As they grow into adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.

As Y/N was reading for about 3 hours unknowingly. The book was getting really good to her when suddenly  there was a knock on her door. This confused her as none of her friend lived near her. Getting up she looks through the peephole only to see no one there. This confused her and caused her to be cautious about opening the door.

"Who is it?" She called out calmingly.

"Y/N its me, Jordan." Taken a-back by the voice she knew all too well, she pulled the door open quickly.

"Jordan... h-how are you here right now? Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" She asked, pulling him into a hug.

"Last minuet flight, I wanted to see you." He said smiling as they pulled apart.

"I c-can't believe you're here right now... I'm sooo sooo sorry I didn't say anything out our friend anniversary, I feel terrible." She said looking down with a pout.

Jordan took her face into his hands to make her look at him, "Its okay Y/N these time zones get tricky." He said causing butterflies to erupt in her stomach.

"Well what are you doing here so suddenly?" She asked looking into his eyes.

"I wanted to give you this in person, but I also need to be here when you read it." He said holding up the white envelope.

"Umm.. okay." Y/N said taking the note out his hand.

The two took a seat on the sofa as Y/N opened the letter and begin to read. As soon as she read the first few sentenced her eyebrows furrowed together as she picked up on this being a love letter. Feeling as if this was a mistake, she continued to read on before she got to the words;

'I love you Y/N.' Her breath caught in her throat she slowly looked up at Jordan; "J-Jordan what's this?"

"Its my 'Letter To You'." He said grabbing her hands to pull her up from her seat.

"I'm madly in love with you and I have been since the night you graduated college, I was journaling and suddenly the words just begin to flow out. I want you for me Y/N and only for me. So I took a last minuet flight here to London, to ask you in person. Y/N let me be perfect for you. Let me be for you and you for me." He expressed looking into her eyes.

Nodding her head yes was all Y/N could do. So overwhelmed and surprised by the fact the boy she actually begin to like the moment they locked eyes, took a 10+ hours long flight just to profess her love for him was crazy.

"Jordan Poole, you're one crazy man, I'd love nothing more than to be your girlfriend." Y/N said.

Jordan smiled so big, pulling her into a loving kiss. The pair were totally engulfed with each other and now they were one.
