Graham: We got a lot better, really quickly. I mean, all we were doing was practicing.

Warren: Day in and day out. I woke up, grabbed my sticks, and headed over to Billy and Graham's garage. If my thumbs were bleeding when I went to bed, it was a good day.

Eddie: We lived and breathed rock and roll back then man.

Sunny: We had all became adults at that point, and a band I had thought would just be something we'd do when we were kids started to become a bit more serious.

Graham: The band was... you know it was just a distraction. An escape, you know? I mean, none of us ever though of it as anything more than that, not even Billy.

Sunny: At the time I only considered myself an honorary member of the band. It was the summer before I was going to be starting university when the band started booking more gigs. Chuck was having trouble trying to decide whether he would be going to school like me, or start getting serious with the band.

The other guys didn't really understand how Chuck wanted to go to school, so I was really his only outlet on the topic. Chuck had told me that he wanted to become a dentist and he was looking at universities he wanted to go to. There were a few days where he'd need to skip practice to go on tours of the schools he was looking at, but he'd need me to cover for him. So whenever he wouldn't be able to make it to some shows or practices I'd take over bass.

Graham: Sunny never tried to play rhythm again [laughs]

Sunny: We mostly played at proms, bars, and weddings. Nothing too serious, just something to get us paid for the summer.

Graham: We weren't hanging out at the classiest of places. There were a few times a fight would break out over something and you were worried you might get caught in the crossfire.

There was this one time where Sunny had joined us for a show in a dive bar in the town over since Chuck had some stuff for school. We were on stage performing Suzy Q, one of Billy's go-tos, when some guy in the front got a little too jacked on something. He started saying some nasty things to Sunny, calling her names and saying she didn't belong in the band. [scoffs] Fucking idiot.
