Sunny: I lost touch with Daisy after the Oahu gig... It was difficult to contact her at times. Life also got busy; Rick and I officially started dating, I was constantly helping out with caring for Julia and– [grimaces] Actually, that's not an excuse.

Friends show up for friends, period.

I should have been there for Daisy, but I wasn't. I-I think a part of me wanted to reach out to her during that time, but the other part of me was thinking about Billy. I was worried for what he'd think of me if Daisy and I got closer.

Because how could I turn my back against Billy? Through every ups and downs Billy had gone through to get us to where we were– where I was, how could I talk to the one person he hated? But that shouldn't have stopped me from contacting Daisy as much as it did.

Author: And how did you get back in touch with her?

Sunny: Um, did Daisy tell you what happened?

Daisy: I had the number one song in the country and not a single person that I wanted to celebrate with.

Author: You were arrested, weren't you? Breaking into your childhood home?

Daisy: [shakes head] I mean, people write all kinds of things about me that aren't true.

Karen: Sunny woke me up at 6 in the morning, telling me to get dressed and that we had to go. She had already stolen the van keys from Warren and was dragging me out of bed before I had a chance to ask what we were doing.

Before I knew it, we were inside the police station staring at Daisy sitting in a holding cell. Daisy was clearly still running off whatever alcohol or drug she had taken the night before when we finally got to her. She stumbled when she stood to greet us, and slurred her words when she tried to explain herself to us.

Sunny and I somehow managed to get Daisy into the van that morning. If you'd believe it, Daisy was trying to convince us to take shots with her at a bar down the street [laughs]. It was six in the morning, and she still wanted to keep going. We ended up bringing Daisy to Teddy's place, and instead of going back home with me, Sunny stayed behind and helped get Daisy to sober up.

Daisy: Sunny was always a phone call away, and I knew she'd always pick up. She was that kind of friend, the one who just shows up when you need her the most. But I never picked up that phone and called her. And yet, there she was, always around the corner willing to help. She helped keep me under control.
