REMEMBER

CHAPTER 6

"Wake up! You're going to be late for your first day of work." Ugh!  Work, how I despise that word.

"You have called the help hotline. How may I help you?" such a ridiculous line to say.

"I have done a horrible thing. I think I might have destroyed someone's life." Panic was read all over the callers voice.

"Please calm down and explain; what have you done?"

I could head her take a deep breath, "It's been a long time now, but I feel like it happened yesterday. She was my best friend, I couldn't let her ruin her life. I gave her, what I believed was the right thing at the time. I gave her a key. I know she has that key. People believe she's dead, but I know she's not, she's out there! Help me find her."

"Ma'am calm down, if they say she's dead, how do you know she isn't?"

She felt frustrated, I could hear it in her voice, "I know she's not because I helped her fake her death. She has a key,a key she must have hidden, with that key she can find me again, but it's been years since I've heard from her. I'm scared."

"Hold on you told me you have ruined her life, how exactly did you ruin her life?" something about her story made me feel like I knew who she was.

"If it wasn't for me she would have never been pretending to be dead. I was the-" someone took the phone from me.

"Hey-" I looked up, "I was trying to help a customer out."

"Not this customer, no one answers her phone calls anymore. She thinks she destroyed a life, but we all know she's crazy. She's called us once a week for the past 2 years with the same story. We've wasted our time helping her, but nothing good ever came from it. We found an article stating her death, and since then she's been calling us. Every time we tell her she's dead all she says is it's a bunch of lies."

She gave me a serious look and hung up the phone, "Don't answer her phone calls anymore."

She walked away.

I didn't even get her name.
