Sorry if the last part seemed weird but I swear it will all make sense in the end. I'm aiming for around 20 chapters so yea :) hope you like this one.
"Are you OK?" He asked.
I shook my head no. "I told him about my sister." We sat in his car in a parking lot at the beach.
"What did he say?" Clinton asked. The loud sound of waves crashing rang in my ears.
"I think I just confused him."
"I was confused at first too, remember?" He smiled gently.
"Yea... I thought you were going to dump my ass right then and there... Even Blake seemed to take the news of her well."
Clinton sighed. "Don't talk about him, Robyn. He basically molested you and threatened to murder me."
I rolled my eyes. "But he can't because he's put away."
Clinton looked out the window. "Yea... Thank god for that."
"Hey Clinton?"
"Hmm?" He looked back at me, his eyes sparkling a little.
"Why do you think only I remember her?" I asked him.
"I don't know... Maybe that creepy ass tree had something to do with it."
"It did... I already know. Ever since then I never went near my Nana's tree again."
"I wouldn't blame you. If that were Mitchel and I... I don't know what I would do."
I instantly thought of what Jesse had told me about Clinton and his cuts. I didn't say anything though. I didn't want to upset him.
Suddenly, Clinton's phone buzzed. He looked to me waiting for me to say something.
"Go ahead." I gave him a slight smile knowing he wanted to make sure I was OK before answering it.
"Hello..." He paused, listening then sighing deeply. "Yeah, she's here... No we are sitting in the car... Don't tell him. I will... All right Jesse, see you in a few." Clinton hung up, looking over to me. "Mitchel is kinda mad."
I looked away. "I know. I feel bad about running out on our date..."
"To be with me." Clinton finished.
"Look, you're the only one I can talk to. You're the only one who understands..."
Clinton touched my hand. "And I will always be there for you. And I am one of few who understand you. You know, you tend to love the things you understand-"
"And don't like things we don't understand, yeah I know."
He kissed my cheek. "That's my girl." He smiled warmly. Right then and there I was contemplating starting a make out session with him.
"Sorry... I just... Habit." He said quietly.
"It's OK. I liked it."
His smile when I said that was just heart melting because it was so sincere and adorable. I guess he enjoyed my company too much. He started to lean forward, closing the distance.
Suddenly there was a tap on the window. "Not your week, Clinton!" Jesse laughed.
Clinton and I both sighed deeply and got out of the car.
"So you two lovebirds... What were you about to do?"
"Make out." We both admitted.
"Well at least you're honest..." Jesse chuckled. "So, to be fair to Mitchel, I think I should take you home."
I nodded, understanding. Clinton suddenly grabbed my arm and pulled me back so I was entrapped in his hard, muscular grip. He kissed my forehead gently. "See you later, love." He let go and got in his car quickly and peeled out of the parking lot.
Jesse laughed. "Gotta love his awkwardness."
I stared at the road his car went down. "He didn't want to do anything stupid... That's why he left."
I could feel Jesse's thoughtful gaze upon me. "You know, you're very insightful."
I shrugged.
Jesse laughed. "Common, lets get you home. Mitchel and your parents are probably wondering where you are."
I followed Jesse to his car and slid in the passengers seat. As we pulled out, I noticed a tree a lot like the one that took my sister, sitting on top of a hill looking out to the water. I sucked a breath in.
"You OK?" Jesse asked.
I nodded. "Would you mind driving up to that tree?" I pointed to the hill.
"Sure, it's actually right by mine and Clinton's houses." He said hesitantly.
I gulped. "Oh..."
"May I ask why?"
"Would you like to hear a story?" I asked.
"Let me guess... It's scary. Look, Robyn, I've heard them all. Trust me."
"No you haven't!" I argued. He had pulled onto the road at this point. "My story is different."
"Look, I don't want to hear it. I hate that damn tree, all right!"
I furrowed my brows at his outburst but I suddenly realized something.
"Bet you haven't heard the one of two girls going into the woods and only one coming out..."
Jesse's ear perked. "I'm listening."
I sighed and started to tell him my story.
[ahhh I know. Next chapter is going to be a major surprise. Mostly about Jesse. And yes... The tree plays a major role in this story... Just wait to see what happens :)]
