Nephew

You finally understand why your aunties were so obsessed with you.

Anubis has been the sole reason for visiting your family. You'd visit during the day while Seth was out in war and Nephthys was making peace offerings. You spoil him frequently, taking him on several trips.

This particular trip, you shield his tender skin from the sun with a black sheer cloak you put on, holding him against you as you wade in the water with him. He squeals happily as he plays, splashing the water with his chubby little hands and feet.

You smile before slightly cutting your hand. Your blood dissipates in the water before lotuses and lilies grow all around you. You set him down on the dense flora, making him giggle as he gets to splash his legs in the water while sitting.

As much as you love this child... you can't help but feel like something bad will happen. To him? To everyone? Who knows?

You look up as a familiar face makes an appearance. From the Nile emerges Khnum.

"Honorable Khonsu." He greets.

"Khnum, you don't have to be so formal. Have you bet Anubis yet?" You coo, ruffling the young boy's hair.

"Well, the way you're acting, one would think you birthed him."

You chuckled before squating down, his little hand reaching and grabbing your long sidelock.

"Nah, I'm just being a terrible uncle." You wink.

"...Isis needs you."

You sigh. "I thought I told her that I don't want any part in politics."

"I'm just the messenger, Khonsu."

You groan before scooping up Anubis, who just hugs you and rests his little head in the divot of your chest. Huh, must be comfy.

"Cmon Anu, let us go back to see mommy and daddy." You coo before unfurling your wings and flying up, holding him secure.

It's almost night when you slow down and begin your descent. Nephthys is waiting for you below.

"Khonsu! How much times do I have to tell you to tell me before you take him?"

"Oops. Get wrecked." You snicker before gently handing over your sleeping nephew.

"Honestly, it's like you're a kid still."

"Oh lighten up Neph, I'm just... happy." You smile as you rub his little cheek. She sighs as she cradles him.

"Well, you should see Seth when he has Anubis. I'm sometimes afraid to ask for him back." She chuckles before turning around and walking inside. You follow, eager to tuck him in as well.

Nephthys lets you watch like a hawk as she lays him in bed, covering him with a blanket and kissing his forehead. You approach and peck his forehead too.

"Have sweet dreams Anu~"

You feel soft hands on your shoulders, tempting you backwards.

"Honestly, it's like you're my husband sometimes." She whispers.

"Goodnight Nephthys."

You walk away
