After discussing it with Darrell, we decided that he was ready to return home with me to my pack. Since Darrell was still new to the werewolf world, I didn't want to overwhelm him by shifting into my wolf form and carrying him on my back all the way back to the packlands, and that was definitely the only reason, it couldn't possibly be because I was shy about showing him my wolf form. Definitely not. I'm an alpha - alphas don't get shy. Plus, he had luggage with him, how was I supposed carry him and his boxes? I'm a werewolf, not a donkey or beast of burden so instead, Darrell drove us there in his car.
I knew that even though Darrell seemed to be taking everything in stride, there was still a lot for him to learn about the werewolf way of life. I planned to ease him into it slowly, introducing him to the pack and teaching him what he needed to know at a pace that he could handle.
As we drove, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anxiety. I was eager to see my pack again and introduce them to Darrell, but I was also nervous about how they would react to me bringing a human into our territory.
Despite my concerns though, I knew that I had made the right decision in bringing Darrell with me. I couldn't imagine leaving him behind. Plus, I was looking forward to showing Darrell my world and teaching him about the things that made being a werewolf so special.
As we arrived at the pack house, Darrell's eyes widened in awe as he took in the sheer size and beauty of the place. The pack house was a magnificent structure, with multiple levels and a wide expanse of land surrounding it.
"Wow," Darrell breathed, seemingly unable to take his eyes off the impressive building.
I chuckled at Darrell's reaction. "Close your mouth, Darrell," I said teasingly. "You don't want to catch any flies."
Darrell laughed, still marveling at the sight before him. "I can't help it," he said. "This place is incredible."
"I'm glad you like it," I said, leading the way towards the entrance. "You'll be staying here with me from now on, so get used to it."
Darrell nodded, a smile on his face. "I'm looking forward to it."
"Good afternoon, Alpha," a female werewolf greeted as she walked by.
"Hello Shanice, have you met my mate yet?" I asked, feeling a surge of pride as I introduced Darrell to the pack.
"Oh, you found your mate? That's wonderful Jax!" she exclaimed, mirroring my excitement. The entire pack had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of their Luna. "Where is she?"
"What do you mean? This is my mate," I replied, gesturing to Darrell.
Shanice's smile dropped. "Oh? But that's a male and..." she paused before sniffing the air, "...and he's human?"
"Yes, he is, do you have a problem with that?" I asked, raising up an eyebrow and daring her to go against me.
"N-no alpha," she said and quickly scampered away.
I let out a sigh and sent Darrell upstairs to my room where he'll be staying with me before heading to my parents office.
"Good afternoon mum," I greeted.
"Hello Jax," she greeted back. "So, I'm assuming the boy upstairs is the reason you abandoned your entire family and pack for nearly a week?"
Straight to the point I see.
I swallowed nervously, feeling like a scolded child, hesitating for a moment before answering, "I'm sorry mum, he's a human and I needed to take things slowly so as not to overwhelm him and I-"
"You brought a human back into our pack lands without telling anyone first?" she interrupted.
I feared the worst. What if she didn't like Darrell? What if she ordered me to reject him? What if she stripped me of my alpha title altogether? My anxiety only grew worse with each passing moment.
However, to my surprise, my dad stepped in, "Oh come on honey, stop teasing him," he said as he playfully hit my mum's shoulder.
My mum joined in, bursting out laughing. "Oh my goddess, you should've seen your face Jax."
Confused, I asked, "You're not mad?"
"Why would we be?" my mum replied.
"Because he's a human and a boy..." I trailed off uncertainly.
"The moon goddess chose him for you and we accept that, as long as you accept it too," my dad reassured me.
"What matters most is that you accept him first, before what anyone else thinks." my mum, agreed.
"I do, Mum. I really do like him a lot already," I admitted.
"That's wonderful, Jax. Your father and I just want you to be happy and to be with someone who can support and rule alongside you," she said with a smile.
"Thank you, Mum and Dad. I appreciate your support," I replied, feeling relieved.
"Of course, and don't forget to introduce him to us properly later," my mother added as I left my the office.
"Will do, mum!" I shouted back before making my way back to my room, eager to spend more time with Darrell. As I entered, I saw him unpacking his belongings and arranging them neatly in the closet. The sight of him doing something so mundane yet so endearing made my heart swell.
"Hey," I greeted as I walked over to him.
"Hey," he replied, turning to face me with a smile. "How did it go with your parents?"
"It went well. They're happy for us as long as we're both happy and capable of ruling the pack properly. They want to officially meet you though. How does breakfast tomorrow with them sound?"
"Terrifying," he replied with a nervous laugh.
"Relax, I know for sure they'll like you."
"I hope so," he said, taking my hand in his.
We stood there for a moment, just looking at each other. It was like time had slowed down and everything else faded away. I couldn't believe how much I had already fallen for him in such a short amount of time.
"Jax?" he said, breaking the silence.
"Yeah?"
"I'm really happy to be here with you. Thank you for bringing me."
I smiled at him. "Of course, Darrell. I'm happy to have you here with me too."
We continued to stand there, hand in hand, just enjoying each other's company. It was a peaceful moment in the midst of everything that had been going on in my life recently. I knew that there would be challenges ahead, but as long as we were together, I felt like we could handle anything.
