3rd Person

As they walked towards the dining hall, Jax could sense the nervous tension radiating from Darrell's trembling hand in his grip. He gave it a gentle squeeze, reassuring him that everything would be alright.

The warm sunlight streaming through the windows highlighted the anxiety etched on Darrell's face, and Jax knew that not everyone in the pack would accept their relationship, but for the moment, he was content that at least his parents were on board.

Darrell's heart raced as they approached the dining hall, the savory aromas of breakfast wafting out and mingling with the sweet scent of freshly brewed coffee.

They had only officially been mates for a few days, but Jax had already invited him to meet his parents. Darrell was excited to finally meet the people who had raised the amazing guy he was quickly falling for, but he was also nervous.

He had only been in the pack for less than a day, and the negativity from some pack members was already so overwhelming, making him feel like an outsider.

Jax sensed his mate's unease and gave his hand another reassuring squeeze. "They'll adore you, don't worry," he said with a grin.

Darrell tried to smile back, hoping that Jax was correct. They arrived at the door and paused for a moment before entering. Darrell took a deep breath and braced himself for what was to come.

As they entered the dining hall, the warm atmosphere enveloped them, and Jax's parents, Lukas and Alyssa, greeted them with welcoming smiles. The soft clinking of silverware and the gentle hum of conversation filled the air as they took their seats at the table. Darrell's stomach churned nervously as he approached the table, not sure what to expect from this meeting over breakfast.

"Good morning," Jax greeted his parents cheerfully, taking a seat next to his father.

"Good morning, son," Lukas replied, giving Jax a warm smile. "And good morning to you too, Jax. Won't you introduce us?"

"Mum, dad, this is Darrell. Darrell, these are my parents."

"Good morning Mr and Mrs Powers," Darrell greeted. "Thank you for accepting me into your pack."

"Oh please, there's no need to be so formal with us, call us Lukas and Alyssa" Lukas said.

"Mum and dad would be even better," Alyssa chimed in. "It's so nice to finally meet you," she said with a warm smile.

Darrell felt a wave of relief wash over him as Jax's parents welcomed him with open arms. He smiled back at them, feeling grateful for their acceptance, and took a sip of his coffee, savoring the rich flavor.

"Thank you, ma'am. It's an honor to meet you both as well," Darrell replied, feeling relieved that they were at last being friendly.

"So, Darrell, it looks like you're a human but I'm guessing Jax has already told you what we and our community are?" Alyssa questioned.

"Yes, he explained the basics of everything to me before bringing me here."

"So, Darrell," Lukas said after a pause. "Jax has told us that you're his mate."

Darrell felt his cheeks flush with embarrassment. He hadn't expected the topic to come up so soon.

"Yes, sir," he said, hoping he wasn't going to be scolded.

"I won't lie, it was a bit of a shock to hear that Jax's mate was a human," Lukas continued, his expression serious. "But after meeting you and seeing how happy you make him, I can't help but support your relationship."

Darrell's eyes widened in surprise and relief. He hadn't expected Lukas to be so accepting.

"Thank you, sir," he said, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. "I really appreciate it."

"Of course, Darrell," Alyssa said with a smile. "We just want our son to be happy, and if you make him happy, then that's all that matters."

Darrell felt a warm feeling spread through him at her words. Maybe this werewolf society wasn't so bad after all, at least there are two people here who liked him.

"We're really glad to have you here, Darrell. Jax has been searching for his mate for a while now and we can see that he's happy with you," Lukas said.

"I'm happy with him too, sir," Darrell replied with a smile.

"That's good to hear. Well, we hope that you'll be happy here as well. We know that not everyone in the pack might be accepting of your relationship, but we're willing to support you both as long as it doesn't interfere with Jax's responsibilities as the future alpha," Alyssa added.

"I understand, and I appreciate your support," Darrell said.

Alyssa smiled at Darrell before turning to face her son, "Jax, we're pleased to see that you've found someone special. However, we need to discuss the responsibilities that come with being a mate in the pack."

Jax and Darrell exchanged nervous glances, unsure of what Lukas was referring to.

"Being a mate in the pack means more than just love and affection. It means being a part of our community and upholding our values and traditions. It also means contributing to the pack in any way you can," Lukas explained.

Jax nodded in understanding, but Darrell was still a bit confused. "What kind of contributions are you talking about?" he asked.

Lukas smiled patiently. "There are many ways to contribute. Some pack members work in the trades, others provide security or medical services. It's important for every member to do their part."

"I understand, sir. I'm willing to do whatever I can to contribute to the pack," Darrell said, feeling a sense of duty and responsibility towards his new community.

Alyssa gave him an approving nod. "That's good to hear. We're happy to have you as a part of our pack."

Jax reached for Darrell's hand under the table and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Darrell smiled back at him, feeling grateful for his love and support.

As they continued their meal, the conversation turned to pack business and plans for the future. Jax filled Darrell in on some of the recent issues that the pack had been dealing with, while Lukas and Alyssa discussed strategies for addressing them.

Darrell listened attentively, impressed by the level of organization and cooperation within the pack. He had always thought of werewolves as wild creatures, but the Powers family seemed to have everything under control.

As they finished their meal and said their goodbyes, Darrell felt a sense of belonging to the pack that he hadn't felt before. He was ready to contribute and make a difference, for himself and for Jax.

After breakfast, Jax took Darrell on a tour of the pack lands, strolling through the lush forest as he pointed out various landmarks and explained their significance. The scent of damp earth and greenery filled the air as they walked, and Darrell felt a sense of peace wash over him. As they walked, they stumbled upon a group of young werewolf pups playing together, their laughter and yips filling the air. Jax introduced Darrell to them, and the pups eagerly welcomed him into their game.

Jax stood by and watched with a smile as Darrell chased the little ones around, his heart warming at the sight of his mate bonding with the young members of their pack. After a while, the two bid the children farewell and continued on their way, and Darrell couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging.

"I'm so grateful to you, Jax," he said, taking his mate's hand. "You've shown me a world that I never even knew existed."

Jax smiled warmly at him, squeezing his hand. "I'm glad you're here with me, Darrell. And I promise, I'll do everything in my power to make sure you're happy and safe."
