Buck was discharged from the hospital just a week after he got struck by lightning. Naturally, his parents and sister doted on him and ensured that his return home was easygoing. But of course, with a vigilant big sister like Maddie, even Buck wanted to find a way out of the whole "Babysitting" gig she had set up.
That is how Buck found himself at his best friend Eddie Diaz's house one evening. He knocks on the front door, completely forgetting that he has a key to the house. Eddie opens the door and seems shocked by who is standing on his porch.
"Buck?" He asked, stepping out to join Buck on the front porch, "what are you doing here?"
Buck just gave him a defeated sigh and made his way into the home and onto Eddie's couch.
"Christopher here?" Buck asked, glancing at the half-open bedroom door of the teen boy.
Eddie shook his head, "Nah, sleepover at Hen's," handing Buck a beer. He sat down next to his best friend, popping open a beer of his own.
Buck takes the beer from Eddie and takes a big swig. With a sigh, he glances over at his best friend. Eddie meets his gaze with a soft smile. Buck couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that there was a time he actually despised the man sitting next to him. A comfortable silence covered them as they drank their beers. The kind of silence you only get from truly understanding each other.
"Hey, you wanna sleep here tonight?" Eddie broke the silence, picking up their empty bottles into the kitchen.
Buck took a moment to consider his preposition before responding, "Yeah, sure."
"Why don't you take my bed? I'll sleep in Christopher's room tonight. "
"Oh, no, it's fine, Ed, I can just crash on the couch."
"No, no, I insist, please. You were struck by lightning, Buckley. Just take my bed," Eddie was already ushering Buck into his bedroom, "and besides, Chris's room is a hot mess. "
Buck laughed as he finally caved into sleeping in Eddie's room. Before he could settle in, Eddie pops back in to chuck him a towel.
"You know where the PJs are," he mentioned while shutting the door.
Buck walks into Eddie's bathroom and strips down. He entered the shower and realised he had no idea how to use the damn thing. He pulled what he thought was the showerhead lever, only for the water to jet from a spout near his feet. Sighing, he tried a different handle and piping hot water jetted onto his face. He gasped, shielding his face from the hot stream. Finally, he got the shower to work properly, and he finished his shower in record time, not wanting to spend even a second more in that contraption of hell that Eddie called his shower.
Walking into the bedroom in his towel, he scoured Eddie's wardrobe for a pair of shorts and a shirt. He picked up Eddie's old firefighter shirt that he has since outgrown and a pair of gym shorts. Glancing at himself in the mirror, he noted that he had lost weight since the accident, and the first thing he would do the next morning would be to go grocery shopping.
He settled into bed and, after checking his social media for a bit, fell into a relatively sound sleep. Or so he thought...
