A couple of days later Eddie was working the night shift. After a pretty bad fire, he and the rest of the 118 were pretty defeated, considering they had lost a little boy in the midst of it all.
Captain Bobby Nash stood at the front of the station and made an announcement, "alright, team. I know that was a tough call and we're all feeling a little down. But let's remember that we did what we could to make sure that that family got out of there safely. Everyone go get showered, changed and try to get some sleep". He made his way to the changing room with the rest of the crew.
After Eddie showered, he was cleaning up his locker when he noticed a certain dirty-blonde man standing in the doorway of the changing room. Eddie waved him over, while the rest of the team greeted Buck with open arms.
"Hey, what are you doing here, kid? It's 2 in the morning." Bobby asked, encircling the younger man in a hug. Buck hugged him back with a deep sigh.
"Couldn't sleep," he answered, glancing at Eddie as he did so, who immediately understood what he meant, "felt like I needed to see the station to ease my mind".
A while later Eddie found Buck laying in his (Eddie's) bed, waiting for him. Buck looked up and smiled when he saw him and looked around and saw that everyone else was already asleep. Eddie sighed and plopped next to Buck in the bed, squeezing into whatever space was left. They ended up falling asleep in each other's arms, Buck making sure to have his own bed ready to dive into when everyone else woke up.
A few hours later they were summoned to a call and as the team stumbled out of bed to head to the trucks, Buck slid into his own bed and pretended to still be asleep. He opened his eyes to an empty bunker and sighed a breath of relief.
What he forgot to take into account was that Chimney never slept through the night...
A/N: I know that ultimately they're gonna end up together, but can we appreciate the wholesomeness that is two men who are comfortable in their masculinity enough to cuddle each other? UGH. Immaculate.
