The next few days were touch and go for the two. Christopher's stomach bug lasted an entire week, meaning that Buck and Eddie had to take alternate shifts to ensure he always had someone there with him. It meant that the pair had been unable to spend any alone time together.

It also meant that they hadn't discussed the words that were said over the phone...

Finally, by the following Tuesday, Christopher was feeling a lot better and went back to school. The two men had the day off of work, so they decided to just spend the day at Eddie's house. They prepared lunch together, a smorgasbord of Mexican cuisines, ranging from birria tacos to Tia Pepa's enchiladas she had made for dinner the night before.

Buck and Eddie settled down at the dining table, breathing in all of the gorgeous aromas coming from their meal. They ate together in relative silence, with the occasional question here and there.

"Did you mean it when you said that you loved me?" Buck finally asked.

Eddie looked up at this, mouth full to the cheeks.

"What?"

"Did you mean it when you said that you loved me?" Buck repeated, now looking Eddie dead in the eyes.

Eddie shifted in his seat uncomfortably for a second before replying, "Of course I did. I wouldn't say something if I didn't mean it. "

Buck turned red, breaking away his gaze. Eddie looked at Buck, searching for his eyes.

"I love you, Evan. I probably always have. Hell, I probably always will." He proclaimed.

"I love you too, Eddie. 'Til forever and all that jazz," Buck managed to choke out.

Eddie reached over the table to hold Buck's hand before turning his attention back to his plate.

"That sounded like you just accepted a marriage proposal," Eddie chuckled, rubbing his thumb over Buck's hand.

Buck turned bright red from this (but he swears it was because the salsa was extremely hot).

"What if we did?" Buck started, "Get married, I mean."

Now it was Eddie's turn to become bright red.

"Honestly, I never thought about getting married again after Shannon," Eddie admitted, before quickly continuing after seeing Buck's crestfallen face, "but then again I didn't think I'd end up with my best friend. I would marry you in every lifetime. In every single alternate universe."

They smiled at each other brightly, tears forming in their eyes as they process what they had both just said.

"Does this mean.. we're engaged?" Buck asked, never once drawing his hand away from Eddie's.

"Informally, yes. Formally, not yet. I want to give you a proper proposal with a ring." Eddie stated.

Buck got up from his seat and planted himself on Eddie's lap, facing the Latino man.

"This was perfect, Eddie. I don't need some fancy proposal to know I want to marry you." Buck leaned down and kissed his partner softly on the lips. "The ring, however. Let's find some matching ones."

Eddie chuckled at this and nodded. He wrapped his arms around his partner (now fiancé) and breathed in his scent.

They had only been seeing each other for a couple of months, but they'd been in each other's corners for years. It only made sense that they would be engaged so quickly.

A few days (and a trip to the jewellery store) later, they announced their engagement at one of Bobby's famous barbeque nights. There was a lot of screaming from Maddie and May, who were very excited to finally see their brother get married. Some tears were shed as Bobby made a brief speech in honour of the newly engaged couple.

A/N: A lot happening in one chapter but woah!! Anyways, I'm about to write up the sequel for this story, but stay tuned for a surprise at the end of the book ;)
