VERONICA POV: I ran to the lodgehouse to find Jack and Race. We ran in, Katherine got escorted to the top fire escape and I get escorted to where Race was. I brought him outside to talk to him alone

"Race.. I want you to know why Jack turned on you at the rally and.. about the real me" I said and his eyes went wide

"The real you?" He asked "You've been lying to me too? What don't I know about you? Is your name really Veronica?"

I sighed "I'll get to me in a minute. But first.. it wasn't Jack's wish to turn on you guys but if he didn't pretend to then everyone, every last one of you guys would be sent to the refuge and he didn't want to so that to you guys"

Race opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off "And I know this because.. I'm a Pulitzer. So is Katherine. But I don't want me being a Pulitzer affecting anything. I.. I love you Race. I know that I shouldn't because of what my dad might think but, if my last name pulls us apart then fine but I just wanted you to know that I love you and I would never do anything to hurt you and.."

I was cut off by Race's lips crashing onto mine. My eyes were wide for a second but I closed them and relaxed into the kiss. I kissed him back and put my arms around his neck. His hands rested on my hips, pulling me closer to his body. We stayed like that until we had to pull away for air. Both of us were smiling like idiots afterwords, red faces and it was silent

Race was the first to speak "I don't give a damn about who your dad is. Or your last name, although it should be Higgins." I laughed a little at this and then he continued
"I just love you for you. You won't be like your father and I know that because I know how much of a kind and thoughtful person you are and your daddy don't define that. I love you Veronica, more than the amount of stars in space"

I smiled and spoke "That's impossible Race, because I love you the most"

Race chuckled and kissed me again quickly before asking me "Would you like to be the pearl to my erster?"

I laughed and kissed his cheek "Of course. I would love to"

Race smiled at me
