lily felt like the days that filled the rest of the week went on for an eternity. and so did michael. the bus ride home was never better than the ride there. though she and sydney talked for a bit, exchanging numbers as the other four talked around them. and as michael sat on his phone, occasionally glancing up at the two girls. lily didn't get off at her stop, she got off with sydney. and ashton's girlfriend, erin. sydney claimed they would be having 'girl time'. they paid no mind. especially not michael. michael couldn't care at all.
the group seemed to adjust to lily's company over the last few days, her bright attitude contrasted with everybody, which made it a perfect match. her designated spot became the only two-seater left, michael's spot. all three girls managed off the bus, erin waved to the tinted windows, presumably waving to ashton. sydney took the two girls by the hand, dragging them into her house. her home wasn't anything special or over the top, it was a simple house, two stories with chipped green paint, she was happy with it though.
lily was the first to speak up, "what's the deal with the guy who's sat next to me?" her words seemed genuine as if she wanted to actually learn more about him, this intrigued the two.
"oh, michael? he's just quiet is all, likes to listen to his music more than talk to us," erin paused, she knew most about michael, as she sat right across from him and heard most conversations between him and ashton. "he doesn't like talking, he's kind of an introvert." she continued, looking to sydney, who nodded in agreement. lily thought for a moment, no wonder he rolled his eyes at her the first day she saw him. at least now she could put a face to a name.the rest of the 'girls day' included watching two seasons straight of gilmore girls, karaoke with god-awful songs, finding alcohol and having a few shots, and several movies. during this time, lily learned a couple of things. sydney can actually sing, erin hates eggs for some reason and is terrified of any horror movie ever made, and lily had no idea how to handle her alcohol. as she saw it in the toilet about fifteen minutes after. slowly, this girls day turned into a drunk sleepover, as they were all asleep on sydney's bedroom floor by at least eleven thirty.
almost not catching the bus, they piled on, pulling an exhausted and hungover lily behind them. ashton looked up almost instantly, "what the hell did you do to the poor girl?" michael's head shot up to ashton's concern, watching as lily sat next to him and leaned her head against the seat in front of them. luke watched as the smallest of smiles formed on michael's lips, hitting sydney and silently gesturing to him. "holy shit.." her voice barely above a whisper. lily sat straight, groaning as she did so, michael spoke up. "the hell happened last night?" he laughed quietly as he asked, which earned him a small hit from lily. "shut up, your voice is loud." lily sighed and rubbed her eyes.
she saw michael typing on his phone for a moment, before handing her one of his earphones. lily hesitantly accepted, absentmindedly leaning her head against michael's shoulder. "how much longer till we get to school?" lily's voice was quiet, the same way it was the first time michael ever met her, "about ten minutes." he responds, looking at his friends who are staring at the two wide-eyed in shock, "cool, ten minute nap." and michael never once moved her until they reached the destination.
everybody saw it happen. michael clifford changed his playlist for lily klein.
