ashton, luke, and calum were all over michael that morning after the bus. luke was constantly asking him the same question, over and over again. "dude, you never share your music, let alone change it!" michael just scoffed and shook his head, "she's hungover, i'm not gonna blare green day in her ears. i'd kill someone if they did that to me." he spoke truthfully, shrugging his shoulders. a sudden buzzing noise emitted the space between the four boys, "sorry guys i go-" calum interrupts before ashton can finish, "yeah yeah, girlfriend awaits whatever." he shakes his head and flips him off before heading the opposite way.

michael truthfully had no idea what the fuss was about with the bus this morning, and also no idea what the hell possessed him to change the song for her. that wasn't like him, and everybody agreed. he thought about the morning over and over again, how she didn't shut him down when he offered his earbud, or how she laid her head on his shoulder. he also would remember the pure shock on his friend's faces over this scenario, and he laughed about it. michael knew he wasn't a social butterfly when it came to new people, shit he was so far from that, but maybe he'd start getting used to it. as long as it meant he could talk to lily. and that's something he'd begin to be okay with. fortuity is a chance occurrence.

erin, sydney, and lily all sat in the second-floor bathroom, sydney kept going over what happened as if lily wasn't present for it. "holy shit lily! he really shared music with you!" lily stared at them in slight confusion, "he never ever does that, trust me. he doesn't even let us listen!" sydney and erin could've sworn they saw the smallest little spark happen in her eyes, lily couldn't believe it. the boy with lilac hair who spoke two words to her after a week, shared his music with her. and it was apparently a big deal. "here, give me your phone," sydney held out her hand, which lily placed her phone onto. when getting it back, she came to see she now had michael's number.

lily just stared, clicking the edit button and changing 'michael' to 'lilac', though she thought he'd kill her if he ever saw that. "text him!" erin yelled, which echoed across the bathroom walls, lily shushes her as she sends a quick 'hey', what's the worst that could happen with just a simple hey? the girl's conversation got interrupted by the bell chime, they could easily skip the next few periods, but erin had a test for her sociology class, so they all dispersed.

it wasn't until her next few classes that michael responded to her, her phone screen lit up, showing the message, "who's this?". lily had two options, egg him on with a mystery or just flat out say who it is. she chose the second option. "lily." the typing ellipses appeared before disappearing. "oh, hi." lily didn't know whether he was confused or if he was upset with her, she decided not to think too much about the message. it wasn't until after the class that she realized she had a new message from 'lilac', smiling a bit, she pressed on the notification. "soooooo what's up?" lily wondered why he didn't ask how she got his number, but she never questioned it. "i'm okay, just waiting for the last bell." she absentmindedly smiled as she watched the text bubble appear. "same, this class is boring as hell."

it'd be a lie if lily said she didn't enjoy those forty minutes of conversation with michael because she really did. she walked with sydney to the bus, as erin and ashton were already walking with intertwined hands. they walked to the back of the bus, where calum, luke, and michael already resided. except, michael didn't have his headphones in. lily took her seat next to him, sitting with her knees against the seat in front of her, playing on her phone. "hey." michael didn't speak too loud, but just loud enough for her to hear. he adjusted the way he was sitting to match her. lily looked over, a slight smile tugging at her lips, "hello" she matched his voice, knowing deep down that their friends would tease them for talking to each other. lily was playing temple run and kept switching turns with michael every time she died. and that's how the rest of the bus ride went till she got off. mocking each other and trading turns on a game.

and they were okay with that. fortuity is a chance occurrence.
