the sound of a blaring alarm woke calum suddenly, he groaned, reaching over to shut it off. calum brushes a few stray strands of hair from sydney's face as he gently shakes her. "syd, we gotta get up." he starts, she silently shook her head as she buried her face into his chest, which made calum smile ever so slightly. "i know, but it's the last week before break, and then we can lay here all you want to." he sat up, which inevitably rolled her off him. sydney grumbled before propping herself up.
luke was still in his hospital bed, and he was growing quite tired of it. he was able to leave, but he had to wait. his mom worked early this morning, so calum was in charge of getting him. so that meant he was to sit here with awful service and bad tv shows for the next nine hours. at least the jello was good.
michael woke up to a sight he'd grow used to seeing. lily completely asleep, next to him, his arm draped around her waist, holding her close to him. he sighed when he heard his phone buzzing from his alarm, trying not to move too much, he shut it off. "do we have to go? can't we just get luke early?" lily whined, rubbing her eyes and sitting up, michael did the same. "as much as i'd like to do that, we do have to go." she nodded, getting up out of his bed. "you mind?" lily got his attention, holding up a sweater of his. michael shook his head, feeling his face heat up.
last to get up was ashton and erin. they fell asleep on the couch, the tv eventually dimmed out, due to nobody pressing anything. ashton didn't have an alarm, he just relied on his timing to get him out the doors. he debated even going that day, he thought school would just stress her out more. but he knew that her parents would kill him if he had her skip. "erin, er, honey" ashton began, erin stirring awake and looking up at him, "oh hi" she smiled a bit, ashton giving one in response, "hi there".
everybody took their sweet time getting to the bus this morning, somehow none of them were late. they all took their respective seats, acknowledging one another as they sat. "so, fun day yesterday, huh?" calum joked, he was always one to try and make everyone laugh first thing in the morning. "hush calum." erin mumbled, still half asleep against ashton's arm.
lily gave him a confused look, motioning to erin then to him, ashton shrugged. mouthing 'i don't know'. michael was asleep on the window, which everybody could only assume was uncomfortable. since the bus didn't mind the potholes, so he hit his head countless times over.
pulling up to the school, lily woke michael up, he was protestant at first but stood up. everybody was well aware they would be sleeping in almost all their classes, and they had an excuse for it. all dispersing to their lockers, throwing the books they didn't need in, and slamming the door shut.
calum, luke, and lily all had english together, except for today it was just calum and lily. walking in front of her, cal held the door open for her, she nodded a thank you and continued into the room. calum followed behind, taking a seat next to her.
michael was the lucky one, he had a study hall first period, so he was able to sleep for the first forty minutes of the day. and that is exactly what he did. he never changed out of what he wore to bed, so his sweater still had the lingering smell of whatever perfume lily was wearing. the teacher woke him up a few times, asking him if he had work to do. every time, he said no and went back to sleep.
ashton had maths first, which he despised. he knew that the teacher had purposely called on him when she knew he didn't know what the answer was. ashton got more and more frustrated each time she called his name, ignoring every hand that was raised. not that there were that many. he excused himself, grabbing his things and pushing his way out of the classroom.
sydney and erin sat in the bathroom together, erin was bouncing her leg up and down. and sydney noticed it. snapping her fingers in front of erin, "yo, what's wrong?" she asked, furrowing her brows. "huh? oh nothing." erin spoke quickly, biting on her nails. "stop bullshitting, er. you're never like this unless something happened."
sydney was confused, she could tell that erin was worried, but not about luke. "nothing, really. i'm fine!" erin chirped up, smiling at sydney. but she wasn't believing it, even erin knew that.
every single one of them watched the clock, watched how slow it progressed for each and every class. almost all of them had slept through five out of seven classes. that's when victory sounded, the final bell rang. lily walked down the stairs to meet sydney and erin, who weren't there. she wasn't upset about it but it was a let-down in some way.
she saw ashton down the hall, walking faster to catch up with him, "ash wait up!" lily called, which caused him to turn and greet her with a smile. "what's up, lil?" lily pointed to the staircase, "syd and erin were supposed to meet me there, but they never did."
there was the smallest trace of sadness in her tone, ashton caught it. "you'll see them in the parking lot, plus what's to be sad about when we're about to go get luke?" he watched lily's face light up, "i thought just cal was going? we can't all fit in his car." she pointed out, becoming confused.
"well, mike and i were talking about it, he can hold you, sydney sits in the front, and erin in the middle," ashton started, "or you can sit in the middle and i hold erin, whatever you two are most comfortable with."
lily gave him a look, "what?" he chuckled, furrowing his brows. "you and erin, what is going on with you two?" ashton diverted his gaze to the floor, "i don't even know. she came over yesterday cause she was so upset, she stayed the night." lily laughed and spoke a bit louder than ashton wanted her to, "you two slept together?!"
ashton slapped his hand over her mouth, "way to say it discretely!" he mocked, pushing her out the door to the lot.
lily caught up and stood next to erin, ashton standing next to michael. who looked a little down he wasn't next to lily. michael had been talking to ashton in their english period about how he was trying to ask lily to be his girlfriend, but he just didn't know how to.
ashton had mocked him being afraid to ask a girl so obviously head over heels for him to be his girlfriend, but he also knew that michael has never wanted to ask anybody to be his. lily was different, and nobody knew why.
luke was sat on the benches outside on his phone just as they pulled up, "i guess he just couldn't be inside that place anymore." calum laughed, beeping his horn to get the blonde's attention. luke got up almost instantly,
he wanted to be with his friends again, not in some hospital bed. he wanted to be next to her again. that's all he wanted, her.
