when morning came, calum was the first to wake. he looked around to see if anybody else was awake, but not to his surprise, nobody else was. cal suppressed a small smile at how sydney's fist loosely gripped his shirt as she was completely cuddled into his side. nearly ten minutes later, he saw luke sit up, his hair completely askew. "morning sunshine." calum mocked, which luke flipped him off in return, "shut up," picking up his phone, he got up off the couch, "i'll be right back." seemingly pressing the phone to his ear and walking out the room.
around an hour later, the rest of the group woke up, ashton and erin first, then lily. michael was dead asleep. calum made a mental note to tease michael about this later. and he definitely would. lily had attempted to sit up slightly, being pulled back by michael's arm which was situated around her waist. she just looked at him in pure adoration, brushing the purple strands of hair out of his face. that's when luke walks back in, talking too loud, which wakes michael up, and causes lily to dart her eyes away.
"now where the hell have you been the past hour?" ashton questions, turning around to face him. "i was on the phone." he responds, extremely nonchalantly, as if it was common knowledge. "oooo with whoooo" erin taunts, smiling as she leans against the back of the couch, head laying on her arms. "a friend." luke responds again, tucking his phone into his pocket.
calum throws a pillow which luke hits down in front of him, "what friend dipshit." he begins, luke rolls his eyes. "my friend keylla, god damn guys." all their faces kind of turn confused. except for michael, who is on the brink of falling asleep again with how lily is messing with his hair.
"who's keylla?" sydney spoke up, propping herself up with her elbow. luke looks annoyed with the questions, but he did leave for an hour to talk to someone on the phone. "someone from a different school district, met them in new york a few months back." they nodded, "is she cute?" ashton pipes up, erin hitting him in the chest, "hello? i'm literally right here, ash." he shrugged and laughed it off, "it was a question!" erin rolled her eyes and got up to move next to lily. ashton didn't seem affected.
over the course of the next thirty minutes, they tried to decide what to do for the day. because they did not want to sit in the basement all day. calum made the suggestion of going to the amusement park, which all simultaneously agreed upon. the only one a little bit weary against the idea, was luke. he's never been a fan of heights of any sort. they debated on whose car was big enough to hold the seven of them. even though ashton offered to hold erin on his lap, which she declined, sitting in the front seat next to luke. ashton was not affected by this. almost as if he was hoping she'd decline. cal opted to have sydney on him, and since michael or lily were too nervous to opt for this, sydney agreed. not that she'd complain.
erin noticed luke drumming his hand against the wheel in one steady pattern as they got closer to their destination. she tapped his arm which caused him to hum in response, "you okay?" erin questioned, glancing back at ashton who was on his phone, causing her to sigh. luke nodded, "huh? oh yeah, just not the biggest fan of heights or anythin' like that." he ended with a small, nervous laugh.
erin smiled ever so slightly, "well, if you ever need reassurance, you know who you can sit next to. not that he'd care." erin looked back at her boyfriend again, who was seemingly smiling at his phone now. a saddened expression crossed her face, "i know, er. thank you." he smiled at her, holding her one hand with his free one.
lily was showing michael tiktoks on her phone by the time they pulled up to the park, weaving in and out of the different lots to find a space to park. their quiet laughs filled the silent car as they scrolled. calum and sydney were the first out of the car, sydney immediately interlacing their hands together.
ashton stepped out as well. while michael opened his side of the car and stepped out, waiting for lily. then came luke and erin. sydney seemed way too excited, as she basically dragged calum toward the ticket redemption, the rest soon to follow.
ashton strayed off, michael and lily watched, giving each other confused looks. "yo! erin your boyfriend just like, went the complete opposite way of us!" michael called for her, she waved her hand off, "oh let him! he's being pissy with me because of what happened this morning!" she knew half of that was the truth, and some part of it was just said to make herself feel better.
lily saw sydney jumping up for them to hurry up, holding her hand out for michael. which he takes gratefully, "erin, luke! let's go!" she yelled, laughing as she pulled michael along to the duo ahead of them. "ready to piss yourself on these rides, lu?" she joked, walking backward in front of him, "oh shut up!" he laughed, hiding his face in his hands due to embarrassment.
he turned her around so she didn't trip, gently pushing her to walk faster. she looked back for ashton, who was gone, not in sight. erin huffed as she looked to luke again, who had a bright smile. she shook her head and ran after the others, "race you!" she yelled back, picking up her speed till she got to the group. luke trailing just behind her.
