Kristen

The moment I walked in my parents' house, my mother was in the kitchen. "Kris, is that you?"

"Yes." I saw my dad sitting on the couch watching TV with an empty beer bottle in his hand. "Hey, dad."

"Hey, do you mind getting me another?"

"Of course."

"I am trying to keep my sanity when your sister gets here."

"Yeah, just wait until you find out what her fiancé's name..."

My dad raised his eyebrows. "Fiancé?"

Shit. "That's her big news."

"How old is the guy?"

"39."

"Jesus. Quinn, do you hear this?"

"Hear what?" My mother shouted from the kitchen.

"Our daughter..." My dad was cut off when the door opened and Tess came inside with a luggage in her hand.

"Mom! Dad!"

My mother looked at Tess and smiled. "Tessie!"

She hugged my mother, completely ignoring me. Nice to see you too, bitch.

"Hi, dad!"

My father nodded at Tess and looked back at the TV. I could tell he was just as angry as me, knowing his 20-year-old daughter is engaged to a man almost 20 years older than her.

"Kris..."

I looked at Tess and faked a smile. "Hey, sis."

"I missed you! Brett will be in shortly, he had to take a phone call."

"You can take your things to the guest room, sweetheart."

"Thanks, mom."

After Tess went upstairs, I felt my heart drop to my ass when I laid eyes on him. He had to of been 6'5, hovering over my tiny frame and to say he is hot would be an understatement. "Hi."

"Hi, I'm..."

"Is dinner done?" Tess cut me off when she entered the kitchen and grabbed two glasses. "Do you want some wine, babe?"

"Beer would be nice."

"Of course!"

Tess opened the fridge door and handed him the beer. Once we all went to the dining room and sat at the table, it felt extremely awkward. "You must be..."

"This is my sister, Kristen."

He can speak for himself, Tess. "Yeah, I'm Kristen."

"I'm Brett."

"Nice to meet you."

"Likewise. I'm getting a refill, does anyone want one?"

After nobody responded, I stood up and grabbed my glass. As I poured more wine in my glass, I felt a presence behind me. "Where is the beer?"

I pointed behind him. "In the fridge."

I tried not to stare at him as he grabbed a beer, ignoring how good he looked in dark blue jeans and how nicely the flannel clung to his skin.

Forcing myself to ignore him, I went back and sat at the table listening to Tess talking everyone's ears off. "We want to get married in July, don't we babe?"

Brett nodded, his eyes directly looking at me. "Yeah."

"But that's in one month, Tess."

She looked at my mother and smiled. "I don't want to wait."

"So..." My father cleared his throat. "Tell me about yourself. You must be pretty mature, considering your age."

"Dad." Tess glared at my father, clearly irritated.

"How old are you again?"

"I am going to be 40 in December."

I could tell my father was extremely pissed the way he was looking at Brett.

After dinner, I looked at my phone and saw that it was 9. "I got to go, I told Zoey I would meet her tonight."

Tess scowled. "But we just got here."

"I have things to do in the morning."

I said bye to my parents and the moment I opened my car door, I felt an arm grab my hand. "Why so soon?"

"Tess would be pissed, knowing that you are out here talking to me."

He shrugged. "I couldn't help myself. Besides... I didn't get to speak with you a lot."

"I umm... have to go."

"Will I see you soon?"

"Maybe."

I drove home in a total daze. My sister would kill him if she knew he talked to me.
