After I put Scarlett down for a nap, I heard a light knock on my door. "It's open."
Tess came inside with her baby and smiled. "Hey, I just figured I would stop by."
"Sure."
"You weren't really able to give Jack any attention."
"He looks like Brett."
Tess rolled her eyes. "Tell me about it. But I wanted to tell you something."
"What?"
"Carson proposed!"
"He did?"
"Yes! Last night."
"Wow, you moved on rather quickly."
"You can have him, Kris."
"Why?"
"Look, I know mom and dad refuse to even be around you right now, but... I forgive you."
"You do?"
Tess nodded. "You're my sister, I can't just push you away. I know he really cares about you."
"Has he visited Jack?"
"Yes, he came over earlier."
"Did he and Carson meet?"
"Yes."
"How'd that go?"
"Brett knows I moved on."
"I don't know what to do about Brett."
"He has strong feelings for you, Kris. I know how things ended with us, but he is a great guy. I want nothing but the best for you."
"Thanks."
"But why didn't you ever tell me about your... occupation?"
"I had no choice but to lie, Tess. I had no interest in being judged by everyone."
"We all make choices, Kris. I personally feel you should cherish your own body, not a random stranger but if it pays well, I can understand."
"Sure as hell have made more cash than any other job."
Tess laughed. "Maybe I'll have to join with you."
"I'm sure Carson wouldn't like that."
"No, probably not."
"I'm happy for you, Tess."
"I know you've been avoiding Brett, but he won't stop talking about you. I think it would be best to let him come over."
"Why?"
"He is the father, Kris. He deserves to see his daughter."
"I suppose you're right."
Tess sat on my couch and turned the TV volume down. "So, give him a call."
"Alright."

Brett: Hi.
Kristen: Would you like to come and see Scarlett? She's napping now, but she'll be awake in a while
Brett: I would love to. Be there soon, Kris.
After 15 minutes, Brett came inside and hugged me. "Hi."
"Hey."
"Hey, Brett."
"Oh. Hey, Tess."
"Figured I would stop to see my sister and niece."
"She'll be up shortly."
Tess smiled. "We have time."
"Can I hold Jack?"
"Of course."
