Brett

"Is everything okay?"

"She said she wants space."

Vince nodded. "I think that is understandable."

"No, it's not."

Why do you say that?

Kristen: You have a life to live, Brett

Brett: Yes, I do. I want to spend it with you.

Kristen: I just need to think about it, okay? It's a huge commitment to make and I don't know if I am ready.

Brett: Okay...

Kristen: I'm sorry, I hope you can understand

Brett: Yeah, whatever

To say I felt pissed would be an understatement. I bought a ring, only to be rejected.

Kristen

"I think you made the right choice."

"I don't know, Zoey."

"Then why did you say that?"

"It's a huge commitment to make with him, and I don't know if I am ready to be with him. I mean... I know Tess acts like everything is fine, but I know she is deep down hurt and always will be."

"What are you going to do?"

"Well, I am keeping the baby of course but I am old enough where I can take care of him or her by myself."

Zoey smiled. "That's what Kevin and I are for. We won't mind helping one bit!"

"Thanks, Zo."

"Of course!"

"It still barely feels real that I am pregnant."

"I know, but you're strong Kris. We will get through this with or without him."

To say I am scared is nothing compared to how I feel right now. I know how much I probably hurt him, but I feel that we are probably better off separated for now at least.

*** Eight months later: "We are going baby shopping."

"What?"

Zoey smiled. "Come on! Wouldn't you rather have things prepared before the baby comes?"

"I mean, yeah."

"I want her to have a blinged out room."

I laughed. "I don't know about that."

"We are going all out, Kris! You have the money."

"True."

She smiled. "Let's go then!"

Once we arrived at the store, there were so many things to choose from. "I wonder if he has talked to Tess."

Zoey looked at me and shook her head. "Stop thinking about him, Kris. Let's focus on your daughter."

After choosing out a crib and some other items, the price was already around 500 dollars. "I can't believe how expensive these things are."

Zoey nodded. "Definitely not cheap."

On the drive back to my house, my phone vibrated.

Brett: Hey.

"He just texted me."

Zoey rolled her eyes. "Just ignore him, Kris."

"He doesn't even know the gender."

"Why should he?"

"Because he's the father of my child."

"So?"

"I should at least tell him that."

"You do whatever you want, Kris. I personally don't support you contacting him."

"It's the least I can do."

Brett: How've you been? Did you find out if the baby is a boy or girl?

Kristen: A girl

Brett: Oh :)

Kristen: Yeah.

Once I got home, I called him. "Hey."

"You finally contact me, Kris. I have called you and texted you for months."

"I know, I'm sorry."

"When can I see you?"

"I don't know."

I hung up and put my phone on the table, helping Zoey arrange things in the spare bedroom. "She is going to LOVE this once she gets older."

"I would hope so. I spent a lot of money for this."

Zoey smirked. "She will love it."

"I'm scared, Zoey."

"Don't be."

"It's hard not to be scared. I'm going to be a single mom, knowing the father will beg to see her."

"Don't give him another chance."

Zoey was probably right, but I had to do what was best for me.
