I stood at the front door, staring at the metal number 3 screwed into it. You were never entirely sure why it was there. Nobody could get that close to the house without somebody going and unlocking the gate. A number 3 would have made more sense up there and there was one there so the need for one on the front door always puzzled you.

You hadn't been home in nearly 2 years due to various different things but now you were. You hadn't told anybody that you were so you were slightly scared for their reactions. Everything in the past 6 months had been building up to this day. The day where you got to go home.

However, you didn't have time to consider your options before Gina came out the front door, on her way to the horses.

"Hi, Y/N." she said, nonchalantly. A few seconds later, her head swivelled around to stare at you. Her eyes widened and her hands came up to her mouth.

"Y/N!" she shouted, full of joy. You smiled and placed your finger over your lip.

"Shhh. I haven't told anyone I'm here, obviously. Help me surprise Mick then Mum and Dad." you told her. She nodded before pulling you into her arms, not quite believing the site before her eyes. It felt like forever since they'd been together and it almost had been. 2 years apart had made Y/N miss her family more than she thought she could.

"OMG! I can't believe you're actually here!" Gina exclaimed, trying to be as quiet as possible. The smile on your face and grown ear to ear. She took a moment to breath, sitting down next to you.

"Mick's still not got up out of bed. He's sulking cause he wants to talk bad and gossip about Haas with you cause Mum said that we shouldn't do that, Dad encouraged it, of course, and I've been listening to all of it so I told him that I'm not going to anymore." she told you.

Your plan was finished. Gina checked to make sure nobody would spot you on your way to surprise Mick. She gave you a thumbs up before the pair of you snuck up the stairs. You tiptoed, careful to not make any noise.

"Y/N's here." Gina said, as the pair of you reached his bedroom door. "Ha ha, very funny." Mick said. "What's funny about that?" you asked. He sat straight up in an instant. His mouth dropped wide open, unable to think about what to say. He was completely speechless.

You and Mick had been best friends growing up. Gina had always loved horses but you and Mick shared your passion for karting. You were inseparable except for when you refused to talk to each-other after a race which hadn't gone well in some way, but it never lasted long.

"You came home." he mumbled, before the 3 of you heard footsteps coming up the stairs.

"Gina! Mick! What are you doing up here?" Corinna shouted, stopping in her tracks as she reached the top of the stairs. There you stood. She came bounding over and threw her arms around you.

"Michael! Come up here!" she shouted once again. Michael made his way up before stopping in his tracks when he saw Y/N. He burst into tears like none of you had ever seen him do before.

"You came home..." he mumbled. He was a family man and loved having everyone together. It silently tore him apart when each of you were hundreds upon thousands of miles away. This week would be one of the greatest of his life.
