"You can enhance your body's capabilities, right? Let's push that to its absolute limit since you're too damn scared to do much of anything else!"
"Hey-"
You recoiled with a look of alarm as Saihara got all up in your personal space, golden eyes gleaming.
"Just you wait, Maruyama Y/n. Within two weeks, I'm gonna turn you into a goddamn beast."
'Is the work gonna pay off or am I gonna flop.' you wondered as the next phase of the obstacle race got closer and closer, a large chasm of unfathomable depth *probably not too deep* with several isolated pillars of ground linked with criminally thin rope.
Tokage and Todoroki weren't too far behind, Bakugo blasting along somewhere behind the three of you. The chasm just got closer and closer, but your pace didn't slow.
"So the first phase was a breeze, huh? How about the second!?" Present Mic's voice boomed, "If you fall, you're out! If you don't wanna fall, crawl!" you were getting dangerously close to the chasm, "Wh... What's she doing? 1-B girl, you can't crawl if you don't stop to balance yourself! H-HEY! DON'T SPEED UP!"
You ran faster and faster, every single blood cell tingling with excitement as your blood practically boiled. Faster... no, faster than that! You could go even faster!
...pause.
'Not yet... not yet...!' you cleared the distance between yourself and the edge of the chasm, your pace only quickening as you made haste. Your expression was lightning focused, e/c eyes unblinking and blazing with determination, 'Not yet... almost...!'
A distance away at Jaku General Hospital, your father was checking in on a patient when the woman in the hospital bed glanced up at the TV in the waiting room with a curious look, "Oh, Maruyama-san, isn't that your daughter?"
"Hm?" your father glanced up at the TV with a tired gaze, e/c eyes widening at the sight of you reaching the edge of the chasm... and then leaping. You were airborne, way higher than a normal human jump should've taken you. It was like you were flying.
"SHE JUMPED! SHE JUMPED!!!" Present Mic shrieked, "WILL SHE MAKE IT!? WILL SHE-!?"
You landed on the first platform, rolling to lighten your fall before returning to your feet, sprinting to the edge of the pillar and leaping once more. "SHE JUMPED AGAIN!!!"
Your father watched in awe from the hospital room before his expression softened into a little smile, "Yes... that's my daughter. She's enjoying herself, from the looks of it."
"Hehe, you must be very proud of her."
"Haa... she worries me sometimes, but yes. I'm proud of her."
'OHHHH I'M GONNA FALL, I'M GONNA FALL, I'M GONNA-!!!' you leapt one last time, closing in on the edge of the chasm before smacking into it with your upper body barely over the top, "OOF!"
"MARUYAMA CLEARS PHASE TWO AT INCREDIBLE SPEEDS!!! IS THE REST OF CLASS B THIS INSANE!?" Present Mic shrieked as Tokage's body parts floated on over, reassembling themselves enough for her to grab your hand and drag you up to safety.
"You okay?" she inquired as you dusted yourself off, rubbing the spot where your gut collided with the unforgiving edge of the ground, "That was quite a hit you took."
"Nowhere near as bad as Saihara's gut checks," you puffed out before beginning to run again, tugging Tokage's sleeve to get her to run as well, "Come on, it's not over yet. We should put some distance between ourselves and those two Class A nutjobs."
