15 | A Forced Seperation

It was an average day in Yokohama and the agencey have been sent to handle a mission that was quite different from the rest. But this time they had teamed up with the port mafia to stop the incomming attack on the city.

However the catch with teaming up with the mafia was that one of the members had to switch to the mafia and join the ranks. And that person was to be decided untill the end of the fight.

"Which one of you will be joining the mafia?"

The agencey members looked at each other as neither of them wanted to switch to the port mafia. So with that they had what felt like a long conversation about who would go to the mafia.

"Are you done yet?" The mafia boss asked. It seemed everyone was getting fed up of this and wanted it to be over with. They all faced the mafia boss and neither of them moved.

"Which one of you will be joining the mafia?" He asked more harshly this time.

They all looked at each other once again before Dazai stepped forward.

"Ah Dazai you will be the one to join." Mori said. Dazai glared at Mori. "I'm only doing this because Im not letting anyone else suffer at the hands of you."

"Whatever you say Dazai." Mori said as he walked away with the remaining mafia members not too close behind.

With that Dazai decided to use what little time he had left to say goodbye to everyone.

"Dazai!" Atsushi shouted as he hugged Dazai. Everyone else in the agencey also did the same. Now all that was left was for Dazai to say goodbye to Kunikida.

Everyone else noticed this and decided to give the two of them some space as they were really close with each other.

"Dazai ...." Kunikida said.

"Kunikida."

They both stared at each other before Kunikida pulled Dazai into a hug. "I don't know if I will be back." Dazai started to say as he let Kunikida stay with him.

"But I do know is that I love you and I want you to remember that."

"Yeah , me too." Kunikida said.

Their little last moment was interrupted as Mori came back. It seemed that it was now time to part ways. Dazai and Kunikida pulled away from each other as Mori was now dangerously close to them.

"I believe that there is work to be done Dazai." Mori said as he had an evil smile which made Dazai want to kill him right there and then.

"Welcome back to the mafia Dazai. "

Dazai took one last look at everyone before turning to walk in the opposite direction of everything he had worked for. And Kunikida watched untill Dazai was no longer in sight of him , wondering if they will ever be able to see each other again.

It had been a few months since Dazai had to join the port mafia and things were just the same as they always have been since that day.

Everyone had took the news of Dazai having to join the mafia hard but Kunikida took it the hardest. It had affected him to the point where he ended up not doing his work at all as he was often staring in to space thinking about Dazai.

It was so silent in the agencey that nobody dared to speak. They all carried on working as if things hadn't changed all those months ago.

Suddenly the door to the agencey burst open causing everyone to stop what they were doing. Ranpo had walked in and he looked like he had seen a ghost.

"Whats wrong?" Atsushi asked.

"I have some bad news and its not good." Ranpo said as he took of his hat.

"Im aftaid that Dazai is dead." Ranpo started. "He was last seen in the mafia headquarters. He was found dead by one of the exacutives."

At the sudden reveal of the news the whole agencey fell silent.

It was in that moment when Kunikida felt like everything had stopped. He was sure that he heard that correctly. And since it was comming from Ranpo he knew better not to question if as Ranpo was always scarily right when it comes to his detective work.

"He's really gone ....." Atsushi said.

Kunikida didn't know what he should do as of now. However he did know is that all this could have been avoided if he had said something else back then.

Kunikida felt as if it was because he didn't stop Dazai from going to the mafia that he was dead now. Dazai would still be here if he had at least tried to stop him from joining the mafia and if Kunikida went instead of him.

But that wasn't the case as Dazai was dead and he wasn't comming back.

I wrote this bc it was an idea I had. The next oneshot won't have alot of angst in it I promise.
