The Last Elite (Book One).

Chapter 4: Overwhelmed

We woke up early that morning and dawned our armor. Synced up our helmet radios and headed out towards the Raknash compound. We walked for about ten miles through the overgrown forest. Moving silently through the ferns and shrubs that covered the forest floor. The light barely cut through the thick canopy of trees that covered the entire planet like an umbrella. After about an hour and fifteen minutes more of walking we saw the compound.

At first sight it looked like a normal cave, but if you took a closer look the rock was actually textured and fake. Behind the texturing lay black steel with openings where Raknash archers would shoot anyone within range of their crossbows which were made from disassembled machine gun parts which made the cross bows very effective against our armor.

"How are we getting in?" Tiger Fangs quiet voice whispered over the radio.

"Well, I was thinking about taking up positions in the trees and have you throw a couple of your knives at the compound and do as much damage as you can" I explained. "Then as they come out to neutralize the threat we can jump them from the trees and then go to hand to hand combat".

She took everything i said in and after a few moments of silence she spoke "So i'm guessing by "we" take out as many out from the trees as possible you mean me. Because all you have are daggers and that sword" she pointed out bluntly. I pulled out fifteen to twenty throwing knives from a side compartment in my breastplate and flashed them at her.

"No, i mean "we" as in both of us, and once we run out of knives we can drop down and use hand to hand combat" I beamed from behind my faceless helmet.

I brightened my visor So we could see each other more easily. As did she, we quietly climbed into the trees and looked for each others position. It didn't take me long to spot the bright purple color of her visor staring me down. I looked at the compound, no alarms had been raised and we had gained a perfect position .

I looked back at her and nodded saying "take your best shot".

"Trust me, i never miss" came her response over the radio clear as a bell. I smirked and waited for her to make her move, i held onto the throwing knives tightly not wanting to drop any of them. It didn't take long, Tiger Fang launched three of her explosive knives planting them on the sides of the compound and the door.

Three seconds after initial contact was made the C4 in the daggers detonated blowing out the door and both walls. fire erupted upwards engulfing the compound in flames. Smoke rose up toward the canopy of trees blocking out what little light came through the trees plunging the forest into darkness.

I looked and saw a few dead Raknash already that must had been caught in the explosion. Then the horn sounded, a deafening roar that made everything around us shake and go silent. slowly two Raknash crept out Cutlasses drawn and ready for a fight. "I got the one on the right" I whispered as i took aim at the Raknash on the right.

"Roger that" came a quiet but serious tone.

I waited and threw the knife with all my strength. It whizzed through the air and sliced through the left side of the Raknashs neck ripping a path all the way to it's jugular as it passed through and embedded itself in the tree in front of him.

At that same moment the guard on the left side dropped to his knees as his throat glowed purple and the exploded in a mass of green slime and pooling around his headless body. But little did we know that we had just killed decoys. At that moment arrows started flying through the air in our directions. We ran along the branches going from tree to tree. An arrow drove through a branch i had just stepped on and i fell out of the tree and landed tucking myself into a roll and ended up behind a big tree.

Arrows thumped into the trunk as the Raknash archers pinned us down. "What are we going to do" Tiger Fang yelled over the radio.

"I don't know they are pretty accurate" I yelled back trying to quickly come up with a plan. All of a sudden it hit me like a slap in the face. I darted out from behind the tree and sprinted over to were Tiger Fang was pinned down.

"what are you doing?!" she screamed in rage and concern "We need to survive not get fucking killed".

"Give me some of your explosive blades " I ordered as i stuck out my hand.

"Why" she asked.

"Just give them to me" I snarled. She rolled her eyes and gave me seven knives and then closed my hand in hers.

"Be careful" she said, i didn't need to see her eyes to know that they were filled with worry. I nodded and ran back out into the line of fire. Arrows whizzed past me and one struck me in the shoulder almost tearing through my armor. I quickly shook off the pain that suddenly rose knowing i dislocated my shoulder and probably cracked my collar bone and sprinted towards the compound.

As soon as i had gone ten yards i started throwing them at the compound and embedding them in the walls of the compound. I even got some in the holes that Tiger Fang had made. Within seconds the compound exploded into shards of large metal and Raknash bodies as blood and debris rained from the sky. I shot forward as the arrows stopped and dove into the compound.

"It's good to go get in here" I said over the radio.

"Already behind you" came the response as i heard the slow beat of footsteps come up behind me signaling that she was right behind me.

"Then lets go shall we" I said glancing back at her and then moving forward. Flames licked at us from the walls and bodies were everywhere, green slime covered the walls like a bad paint job. We searched for any survivors in silence until we got to the main chamber. As we entered the chamber i could feel something wasn't right, it was dark and quiet. But i could also feel eyes watching our every move and we both knew we weren't alone in this compound. I flicked both my wrists and my daggers appeared in my hands, as i did so Tiger Fang drew a long katana from the side of her leg and held it at her side. Just then the lights came on and we found ourselves surrounded by at least fifty Raknash soldiers armed to the teeth and ready for a fight. I took up my stance and i could feel Tiger Fang do the same and pressed her back against me.

I smiled and glanced back to see we were fully surround, and then i spoke over the radio but also loud enough to where the Raknash could hear me "guess it's time for round two".
